Southeast Asian Development Center's (SEADC) mission is to foster a healthy, thriving, and self-sufficient Southeast Asian American community. 

Founded in 1977 in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Southeast Asian Development Center, formerly Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to lifting children, youth, and families from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam out of poverty. Our services are structured around providing low income and vulnerable Southeast Asian Americans with basic needs and skills critical to building successful futures. The Program Assistant supports Youth Development in facilitating workshops, gathering materials for events and workshops, and daily closing of program activities. The ideal candidate is skilled in working collaboratively with youth and developing strong, nurturing relationships with young people. They will be detail-orientated and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment. They must be flexible with varying schedules and activities during the week.


Position Title: Program Assistant
Compensation: $24/hour DOE, Nonexempt; Part time, expected hours of work 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm-5:00 pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Client Support (75%) 

  • Support Youth Development program with summer and afterschool programming activities, workshop facilitation, gathering materials for events and projects, and daily closing of activities. 
  • Assist with planning and facilitating weekly workshop curriculum focused on Identity, Leadership, Academic Enrichment, and Health and Wellness.  
  • Assist with monitoring and supervising MYEEP interns and K-8 Youth participants.   
  • Ensure the safety of youth participants in the classroom, on field trips, during walks, and on the bus.  
  • Assist with K-8 activities, including meal service, outdoor recess, and homework help.  
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, stocked, and organized physical program space. 

Administrative Support (25%) 

  • Assist with entering attendance and client data into databases.  
  • Be responsible for editing and updating online and hard copy files and documents.  
  • Assist with creating outreach and recruitment fliers and materials.  
  • Assist supervisor with parent and partner communications. 
  • Attend external and internal events, trainings, and meetings as needed for the position. 
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor. 

Monday through Friday in-person programming required. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements: 

EDUCATION:   

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Strong knowledge of reading, writing and math. 
  • Able to lead small groups of students with homework support. 
  • Effectively exercise behavior management skills. 
  • Provide strong mentorship and guidance. 
  • Demonstrate compassion, patience, reliability and professionalism. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate fluently in spoken and written English. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook 
  • Must have adaptability to adopt new software and technologies and participate in the development of such systems by providing feedback. 

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Adept at navigating different technologies: 
  • Experience with data entry and CRM systems, preferably Salesforce 
  • Familiarity with project management platforms and online communications platforms such as Teams 
  • Experience working with diverse youth from a range of backgrounds and experiences 
  • Knowledge of youth development 
  • Bilingual in a Southeast Asian language (Cambodian, Lao or Vietnamese) or Arabic 

Additional Qualities and Requirements: 

  • Passion for the organization's mission and values 
  • Able to travel locally as needed 
  • Participation in events outside typical work hours/office: annual staff strategic planning offsite, annual staff appreciation day, annual gala 
  • Pass fingerprinting background check and provide negative tuberculosis test clearance before start date 

Physical Requirements

  • Possesses multi-limb and eye-hand coordination.
  • Able to stand, bend, reach, stoop and lift items up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods of time. 
  • Able to sit or stand at a desk, work on a computer, and participate in meetings live or via work device for a full workday.
  • Capable of participating in program activities and events that involve walking and delivering presentations.
