ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Risk Program Advisor is the enterprise-wide facilitator of our ERM framework, owning the risk assessment cycle, risk register, key risk indicators, and risk reporting. This is a consultative, highly confidential, hands-on role that embeds risk thinking into strategy, projects, and day-to-day operations. This is an exciting opportunity to bring forth new ideas and see those ideas come to life.



WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Essential Responsibilities (60%)

  • Conducts annual enterprise risk assessments in all operational and functional areas of the credit union, including key compliance areas such as BSA, OFAC, and payment systems.
  • Maintains and monitor the risk register and risk taxonomy; document inherent and residual risk and control effectiveness under the guidance of the AVP of ERM
  • Integrates risk analysis into strategic planning, major initiatives, and resource allocation
  • Develops and maintains the risk appetite and tolerance statement handbook
  • Defines, monitors, and reports Key Risk Indicators (KRIs); escalate emerging risks and facilitate action plans with risk owners and executives
  • Provides expert compliance advice across all departments to ensure activities, initiatives and processes meet regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews and recommends edits to marketing collateral and member communications, partnering with Marketing Department.
  • Manages the relationship with the credit union’s disclosure vendor to ensure timely updates and publishing of credit union disclosures.
  • Drafts and maintain ERM policies, standards, and procedures; align with safety and soundness principles and regulatory expectations
  • Prepare concise, executive-ready ERM reports and dashboards for ELT, Board, and audit committee; coordinates materials and follow-ups
  • Assists leaders and teams on risk culture; partners with other teams to deliver risk education and playbooks; champions efficient, right-sized controls
  • Oversees the business continuity program (BCP) by leading the BCP Committee, coordinating testing, training, and conducting business impact analysis
  • Drives the execution of the vendor management program by coordinating with business owners to ensure vendors are properly assessed and managed according to organizational standards and regulations
  • Oversees the use of the GRC platform through guidance and oversight, ensuring audit findings, vendor management, and incident responses are documented in accordance with policies and regulatory standards
  • Provides consultative risk guidance to organizational leaders
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned

Cross-Functional (20%)

  • Collaborate with the ERM team and assist on common tasks when needed
  • Assist internal teams to achieve common goals
  • Work with appropriate leaders in advance and minimize disruption to business operations
  • Provide consultative guidance by attending on-demand meetings

Periodic Sampling of Activities (10%)

  • Performs data validation sampling for compliance assurance
  • Reviews records to ensure proper recording of transactions and conformance with laws and regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Determines the effectiveness of financial and internal control systems
  • Prepares reports of findings and makes recommendations for improvements or corrections

Administrative (10%)

  • Reviews competing priorities and adjust plans to meeting goals
  • Prepares agenda and meeting packets, and record meeting minutes, such as the Risk Management, Compliance, and Business Continuity Committees. Assist with the follow-up of outstanding items as discussed by the committee and/or briefings to management.
  • Exercises an appropriate level of courtesy, tact, and professional communications in working with credit union employees, members, and vendors.
  • Performs all job functions based on the credit union’s brand-values.
  • Attends and maintains appropriate training and compliance designations.
  • Demonstrates excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates decisiveness, integrity, flexibility, and critical thinking that advances team, department, and organizational success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the financial industry (banks and credit unions) focused on risk management
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience within the related field
  • Understands ERM frameworks and concepts (COSO, ISO 31000) and be able to apply them. Experience and solid understanding of ERM risk and analytical software applications
  • Solid understanding of consumer protection state and federal laws and regulations, including key rules and regulations as required by the NCUA and WA State DFI
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and assignments, follow tight target date parameters, and coordinate and communicate effectively among widely-dispersed key partners. Organized, adaptable, flexible, and collaborative approach
  • Highly analytical with incisive presentation skills (written and oral)
  • Strong member service orientation and proven skills in being a trusted partner
  • Intermediate/Advanced familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, Word, Excel, Teams, and other Office Suite products
  • Ability to create impactful prompts for artificial intelligence software, e.g., Copilot, and make use of leading-edge technologies to advance productivity and communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous completion of ERM certifications, such as CUERME, CUERP, CRCMP, or ARM
  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements.
  • Experience interacting with a Board of Directors or Supervisory Committee.
  • Experience with Apogee iQ.



Working Conditions:

  • This is a remote role. However, it may require occasional work in an office environment in the Greater Seattle area of Washington State
  • Team members may attend special off-hour meetings and seminars
  • The nature of work may include prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Indirect exposure to security incidents, including robbery

Compensation is based on the candidate's geographical location, calculated based on an adjustment factor from Seattle area market compensation.



The pay range for this role is:

92,800 - 139,200 USD per year (US)
