Location

This role can be located at any of Select Harvests offices across SA, VIC, NSW or at the head office in Melbourne. The role will require frequent intrastate and interstate travel to support beekeepers and pollination operations across Australia.

 

Role Purpose

The Pollination Manager is responsible for maintaining Select Harvests' pollination security by developing strong beekeeper partnerships that are either existing pollinators of Select orchards or potential pollinators of Select orchards, overseeing company-owned hive assets and associated arrangements, managing compliance requirements and contributing to pollination strategy development.  As Select Harvests' lead technical specialist for beekeeping and pollination, the role draws on significant beekeeping experience, including varroa management expertise, to provide technical guidance to beekeeper partners, monitor hive health and performance, identify pollination risks, and support the long-term pollination security of the business.

 

The role also ensures Select Harvests remains a preferred partner within the Australian beekeeping industry through proactive stakeholder engagement, industry collaboration and the development of strong beekeeper relationships.

 

The position requires strong commercial acumen, exceptional stakeholder management skills and frequent travel.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor the industry and position Select Harvests as “Grower of Choice” by beekeepers
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain positive relationships with beekeepers throughout the year to support long term partnerships
  • Represent Select Harvests at industry events, conferences, and forums, contributing meaningfully to discussions.
  • Work closely with contracted beekeepers to support best practice hive management and maximise the number of Select Harvests owned hives returned for pollination each year.
  • Manage and monitor regulatory and compliance activity
  • Identify SHV pollination risks, contribute to pollination strategy and manage implementation

 

Your Skills

  • Significant knowledge and practical experience in commercial beekeeping operations
  • Demonstrated experience in honeybee health management, including monitoring, inspections (assessing colony strength, health, productivity) and undertaking treatment and management of varroa mite and other key bee pests and diseases.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Australian apicultural biosecurity requirements, including hive movement regulations, beekeeper registration obligations and associated compliance requirements.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with commercial beekeepers, internal teams and external industry stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to review data, analyse trends and identify actions to solve emerging issues.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to understand and balance strategic, operational and financial outcomes. Familiarity with pollination contracts.
  • Current unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence (Experience operating 4WD vehicles in rural and agricultural environments is desirable).
