POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Hardware Product Manager owns the M3 hardware roadmap from concept through production release. This role defines requirements for new sensor modules, drives cross-functional coordination with engineering and manufacturing, and establishes the strategic and revenue mapping that guides hardware prioritization across 10+ concurrent initiatives. Based in Durham for daily coordination with the plant team.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who thrives at the intersection of product strategy and manufacturing execution — comfortable in design reviews and on the production floor, making BOM tradeoffs and guiding new modules through NPI milestones to production readiness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the M3 hardware product roadmap, defining the sequence and rationale for new modules from concept through production release and post-launch iteration
  • Define requirements for new sensor modules including ECDO, camera, 5-parameter, and pH calibration kits, balancing customer demand with technical feasibility and manufacturing constraints
  • Establish strategic and revenue mapping that guides hardware prioritization, connecting module investments to business outcomes and market opportunity
  • Drive modules through the NPI (New Product Introduction) process, from requirements through prototyping, design reviews, production validation, and manufacturing ramp
  • Own BOM cost targets and margin tradeoffs for hardware modules, partnering with engineering and supply chain on component selection, supplier negotiations, and cost reduction initiatives
  • Champion design for manufacturability (DFM) principles, ensuring product requirements translate into production-ready designs without late-stage rework
  • Serve as the primary Product interface with the Durham manufacturing plant, participating in design reviews, prototype evaluations, and production readiness assessments
  • Coordinate with the VP of Product on roadmap tradeoffs, investment decisions, and quarterly planning

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Senior-level experience in hardware product management, with ownership of physical product roadmaps through full NPI and production lifecycle
  • Track record of defining and shipping hardware products involving sensors, instrumentation, or embedded systems
  • Direct involvement in BOM management, cost targeting, and make-vs-buy decisions for manufactured products
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent hardware initiatives while maintaining roadmap clarity and stakeholder alignment
  • Strong cross-functional coordination skills across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams
  • Hands-on experience with Jira or similar tools for hardware development tracking and roadmap visibility

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in precision instrumentation, industrial sensors, or process monitoring hardware
  • Experience in food & beverage, brewing, fermentation, or adjacent process industries
  • Familiarity with production scaling from prototype through volume manufacturing, including supplier qualification and yield improvement
  • Experience working in a growth-stage company where hardware and software ship as an integrated platform
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (NSF, FDA, CE) that influence hardware design and certification decisions
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (HART, Modbus) or sensor connectivity standards

TEAM WORKING STYLE

  • Operates with high autonomy in a growth-stage environment where the hardware roadmap is expanding rapidly across new module types and form factors
  • Partners closely with the VP of Product on strategic direction while owning day-to-day hardware product decisions, prototyping involvement, and manufacturing coordination
  • Values clarity in requirements, pragmatic tradeoffs, and direct communication with engineering and manufacturing counterparts
