At Sight Machine, you will work with manufacturing leaders across industries including food & beverage, consumer packaged goods, automotive, packaging, etc. . You will have access to vast amounts of factory floor data, learn how the products you use every day are made, using that knowledge to uncover insights into how customers manufacture products and develop solutions to critical business challenges. Our platform tackles complex problems, including Extract Transform Load (ETL), information retrieval, data aggregation and analytics, factory automation, distributed computing, security, and is leading the expansion into machine learning, agentic and physical AI applications.

About the role

Sight Machine is focused on expanding its core engineering team in San Francisco and this position is an opportunity to be a key member of that team. You will also work in close collaboration with other company functions in Ann Arbor, Michigan and other locations.

You will be working on critical backend design and development of our data stores, platforms, systems, and web applications, along with internal tools that manage our services. Your daily focus will be on productivity, features and delivering results, while ensuring our platform remains a high-performing, reliable, user-first experience.

We seek an individual with a deep CS background and experience that includes development of high-availability services. Candidates should have a passion for solving complex and thought-provoking challenges. Our backend systems solve challenges from just about every area of computer science, including ETL, information retrieval, machine learning, factory automation, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, big data, etc. We are dealing with an extremely large amount of data, so we are looking for expertise working in large enterprise systems with an eye on scalability and reliability.

Qualifications

• Self starter and quick learner, with a demonstrated ability to deliver results in a fast paced startup environment
• Team Collaboration and ability to solve problems independently are musts
• At least 4-6 years industry experience designing, coding and delivering robust high-performance and scalable systems.
• Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux
• Extensive experience with Python and proficiency in at least one another high-level programming language
• Experience with relational databases & NoSQL preferred (ie. Mongo, Postgres)
• Strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, scalability, and fault-tolerance
• Competent troubleshooting skills
• Excellent communications skills

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure Cloud a plus
• Experience with ETL
• Familiar with statistic technologies like R a plus
