About the role

The Emergency Management Specialist is a deployable field position responsible for supporting mission-specific operations under the direction of a Task Force Leader during emergency response and recovery efforts. This role may include assignments in logistics coordination, shelter operations, debris monitoring, damage assessments, or other operational functions based on incident needs. Operating within the Incident Command System (ICS), the Specialist executes tactical objectives, maintains accountability, and ensures situational awareness in dynamic, high-pressure environments.


During non-emergency (blue-sky) periods, Specialists may participate in training, readiness activities, and onboarding support to ensure operational preparedness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned operational tasks in support of incident objectives under Task Force leadership
  • Support functions such as logistics, shelter operations, debris monitoring, and damage assessments
  • Maintain accountability for equipment and adhere to all safety protocols
  • Complete field documentation, data collection, and reporting requirements
  • Participate in daily briefings, debriefings, and operational updates
  • Communicate effectively with team members and leadership regarding field conditions and resource needs
  • Adapt to evolving operational priorities and assignments in dynamic environments
  • Support onboarding and mentoring of new personnel during deployments
  • Participate in training exercises and readiness activities during non-emergency periods
  • Represent SGC professionally when interacting with government partners, stakeholders, and the public




Qualifications

  • Completion of ICS training (ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300; ICS-400 recommended; IS-700, IS-800) within 90 days of employment
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, EMS, Fire Service, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of NIMS and ICS protocols
  • Experience or training in disaster response or emergency management preferred
  • Ability to operate within a structured chain of command
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to perform in high-stress, rapidly changing environments
  • Willingness to deploy on short notice for extended durations, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to complete field documentation and maintain situational awareness
  • Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and commitment to safety




Preferred Skills

  • Experience managing large-scale or multi-jurisdictional incidents
  • Background in military, public safety, or emergency response sectors
  • Knowledge of federal and state emergency response regulations
  • Experience in Logistics, Debris Management, Sheltering, or Communications
  • Familiarity with FEMA reimbursement processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Multilingual proficiency (Spanish and Haitian Creole highly valued)

  • Must pass a background check
  • Must be willing and able to travel and work in field environments
  • Must be capable of working long hours in emergency response environments

The pay range for this role is:

20 - 50 USD per hour (Florida)
