Position Summary

SIRIS, LLC is seeking an experienced Elevator Inspector for a night shift onsite position to support an elevator modernization project at the Library of Congress's James Madison Memorial Building in Washington, DC. The project includes refurbishment of four existing elevators, installation of two new elevators, and associated machine room and utility infrastructure improvements.

Serving in an Owner's Representative capacity, the Elevator Inspector will provide specialized field inspection and quality assurance oversight to ensure construction activities comply with contract documents, applicable codes, safety requirements, and quality standards. This full-time, on-site position requires primarily overnight coverage and coordination with contractors and Architect of the Capitol (AOC) representatives.

Who Will Succeed in This Role

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented construction professional who takes pride in delivering quality work, maintaining high safety standards, and representing the owner's interests with integrity. Success in this role requires sound technical judgment, accountability, and the ability to work independently while building productive relationships with project stakeholders.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Attention to Detail: A proactive approach to identifying potential issues and ensuring construction quality.
  • Professional Integrity: The confidence to communicate concerns objectively and uphold project standards.
  • Ownership & Accountability: The ability to manage inspection responsibilities independently and follow issues through resolution.
  • Effective Communication: A collaborative approach to working with contractors, government representatives, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate contractor workmanship, materials, equipment, and installation methods, recommending acceptance or corrective action as appropriate.
  • Identify and document construction deficiencies, nonconforming work, and safety concerns, and monitor corrective actions through resolution.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain accurate records of construction progress, defects, omissions, and corrective work.
  • Review construction drawings, shop drawings, submittals, and technical specifications to support inspection activities.
  • Coordinate with contractors, design professionals, and AOC representatives to address technical concerns and communicate project issues requiring owner attention.
  • Support elevator testing, commissioning, acceptance inspections, punch list activities, and project closeout.

Project Considerations

Given that construction activities will take place within the Library of Congress's James Madison Memorial Building, an active federal facility, the project team must consider the following:

  • Maintaining the safety of building occupants, staff, contractors, and project personnel throughout construction.
  • Minimizing disruptions to daily building operations, accessibility, and elevator services during modernization activities.
  • Protecting existing architectural features, building systems, and surrounding infrastructure from construction-related damage.
  • Identifying and documenting unforeseen conditions, concealed utilities, and potential conflicts involving existing elevator systems and machine rooms.
  • Coordinating contractor access, elevator shutdowns, equipment deliveries, and overnight construction activities within an occupied federal facility.
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and safe work areas, particularly around elevator shafts, machine rooms, and shared building spaces.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of field observations, construction progress, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal regulations, elevator safety codes, AOC requirements, contract specifications, and project safety standards.

Education

  • Required: Associate degree in a construction-related field, completion of a trade school program, or equivalent professional certification.
  • Preferred: Additional technical education or specialized training in elevator systems, installation, modernization, or inspection.

  • Experience identifying construction deficiencies, evaluating workmanship, and preparing accurate inspection reports.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Experience supporting elevator testing, commissioning, and acceptance inspections.
