Board-Style Assessment Consultant

This is a Contract Position.

Our Company

At Sketchy, we’re transforming how students learn by turning complex topics into unforgettable visual journeys. Our mission? To help students master challenging material, achieve higher scores, and bring their knowledge to life through interactive cases. Through a combination of art, science, and cutting-edge technology, we enable students to learn, retain, and practice—effortlessly. The short version? We’re here to make better clinicians.

Sketchy is looking for a Clinical Assessment Consultant to help us jumpstart assessment efforts for our medical courses and programs. The ideal candidate will have experience in board or board-style question writing, and will be asked to advise and contribute in three different areas: the planning & strategy of our assessments, managing the creation of assessments, and helping directly with the writing, review, and publishing of questions and other assessments as needed.

They also must have an eye for talent and task management. Experience using large language models in assessment item creation is a bonus, but not necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Content and Product Teams to improve existing and design new assessment tools, features, and modes of student engagement
  • Create guidelines for assessment item development and construction based on USMLE guidelines, modern pedagogy, and established principles of instructional design
  • Develop performance metrics to assess student learning outcomes, and use those metrics to modify and improve assessment instruments
  • Perform background research using peer-reviewed sources to prepare for question organization and composition
  • Support item writers in performing necessary background background research using peer-reviewed sources
  • Create written quiz questions and board-style questions in areas within the basic and clinical sciences and appropriate for content covered by medical licensing examinations
  • Work hands-on to organize, outline, and perform final edits on questions as needed
  • Regularly update management and other stakeholders on the progress of project completion, both verbally and through clear documentation
  • Collaborate with other Teams including Content, Development, Production, Marketing, Customer Service, Operations, and Product Release to achieve Sketchy’s goals and objectives

What We're Looking For:

  • Medical Degree (M.D., D.O.) from an accredited institution
  • 3+ year(s) writing and/or editing assessment items
  • Clinical experience with direct patient care preferred
  • Strong foundation of knowledge in the physical, life, and health science disciplines
  • Working knowledge of instructional and learning design principles and best practices, gained through prior education or experience
  • Proven ability to teach complex science concepts from a range of disciplines at a level appropriate for the target audience
  • Strong inductive and deductive reasoning skills with great attention to detail
  • Exceptional writing, editorial, and research skills
