The Lead QA Engineer will be responsible for driving quality strategy, mentoring QA engineers, and ensuring end-to-end test coverage across multiple products and platforms. They will scale quality practices and enable fast, reliable software delivery. They will review test architecture, and partner across Product, Engineering, and DevOps to embed quality in every phase of development.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in all Agile Scrum Ceremonies, including but not limited to Daily Scrum Meetings, Sprint Planning, Refinement, Retrospectives, and Requirements Gathering Sessions. 
  • Collaborate with team members to develop, maintain, and execute test cases, test plans, and test suites for assigned Scrum Teams. 
  • Work with Product Managers to provide updated story statuses and roadblock breakdowns; ensure alignment between product requirements and testing objectives. 
  • Provide timely feedback on the testability of user stories and offer constructive suggestions to engineers to improve code design and future test efficiency. 
  • Lead QA efforts within and across scrum teams, coordinating test execution across multiple features or epics and ensuring alignment with product and business goals. 
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation to replicate repetitive test cases, accelerate test cycles, and improve overall efficiency. 
  • Research, recommend, and apply best practices for test automation, including the use of frameworks and tools that integrate with CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reusable automated test suites for functional, integration, performance, and regression testing. 
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Engineering teams to improve test environments, data provisioning, and deployment processes for more reliable and efficient testing. 
  • Perform thorough testing of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes, as well as regression testing of existing systems to ensure high software quality. 
  • Assist with analyzing and reporting on quality metrics such as defect leakage, test coverage, cycle time, and test execution rates to identify areas for improvement and inform leadership. 
  • Confirm that all features meet acceptance criteria before moving into production, with a focus on delivering high-quality software that meets customer expectations. 
  • Serve as an advocate for ease of use and user-centered quality, ensuring features are intuitive and require minimal effort from end-users. 
  • Participate in and lead release readiness reviews, providing go/no-go recommendations based on test results, risk assessments, and production monitoring insights. 
  • Evaluate and introduce new testing tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve QA effectiveness and efficiency. 
  • Contribute to strategic business initiatives and lead cross-functional projects that elevate the quality discipline across the organization. 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and escalation point for complex quality challenges, cross-team dependencies, and high-risk releases. 
  • Mentor other team members to foster skills development, knowledge sharing, and technical growth. 
  • Support and promote company values through positive leadership and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Other strategic business initiatives or special cross-functional project involvement as required. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in software QA with a strong mix of manual and automation  
  • 1-2+ years of professional work experience in a lead position or unofficially leading cross-functional projects. 
  • Advanced knowledge of software testing methodologies, test planning, and automation. 
  • Hands-on experience with test frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) and scripting in JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#. 
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integration with test automation (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions). 
  • Familiarity with AI-driven testing tools or techniques to enhance test coverage, efficiency, and defect prediction. 
  • Solid understanding of web architecture, microservices, REST APIs, and data validation. 
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members officially or unofficially, as well as, promoting best practices and standards within department and industry. 
  • Experience influencing and guiding functional or cross-functional technical teams. 
  • Self- motivated with the ability to contribute effectively with minimal supervision, within a collaborative team environment. 
  • Proven ability to create collaborative partnerships internally or externally to drive results. 
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively to various audiences/levels, both internal and external stakeholders, including leadership through various mediums. 
  • Proven organization skills with the ability to address short-term and long-term demands simultaneously. 
  • Easily adaptable with the ability to pivot with changing business needs, keeping a professional demeanor and leading by example for other colleagues. 
  • Ability to present and convey material both formally and informally to all levels of an organization. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage workload and meet project deadlines. 
  • High-level of confidence, integrity, professional courtesy and leadership presence. 
  • Strong Microsoft suite experience, including teams or similar web conferencing and internal communication software experience preferred. 
  • Naturally inquisitive with a desire to learn, solve problems and dig into detailed analysis. 
  • Experience working in a fully remote team is preferred, but not required. 
  • Thorough understanding of business operations, standards and processes. 
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing QA professionals, as well as promoting testing best practices 
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; data-driven mindset. 
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills. 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to contribute effectively with minimal supervision, within a collaborative team environment. 
  • Desire and ability to work at a fast pace and drive concurrent technical projects is required. 
  • Comfortability working closely with technical and business audiences of all levels. 


Salary Range 


The base salary for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 annually. This range does not include at plan potential for commissions and/or quarterly upsides. This role is not eligible for Skillable’s corporate bonus plan. Consistent with applicable laws, compensation will be determined based on the candidate's level, relevant skills, qualifications, and experience along with requirements for the position and annual financial plans. 


Skillable is a distributed first team with employees working across the U.S., and we do not consider geography when determining compensation ranges. 


Please note that it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range. Skillable reserves the right to modify this compensation range at any time. 


Pay range and current benefit offerings are effective for 90 days from posting date.  Standard employment offerings are subject to potential change upon periodic review and analysis, at the discretion of Skillable.

Working Conditions:  


The job conditions for this position are in a remote home office setting, requiring a space that supports privacy and focus to attend to regular and frequent video and voice calls. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Periodic travel may be required equaling up to approximately 10% of the time.
