The Cloud Security Engineer will participate in evaluating, developing, and implementing security tools, standards, procedures, and guidelines for diverse systems environments. They will learn and implement a variety of security technologies, such as vulnerability management, data leakage prevention, intrusion prevention, log management and security event management.   

Responsibilities

  • Respond to security events as part of security operations, responding to urgent alerts, which may include off-hours investigation activities. 

  • Develop and maintain cloud solutions including identity and access management, in accordance with best practices. 

  • Develop and improve monitoring, visibility, anti-abuse, and alerting capabilities of cloud systems.  

  • Design, implement, and manage security controls and configurations within Azure, AWS, and GCP environments to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices 

  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and monitor systems, network, databases, and Web for potential system security flaws.  

  • Partner with Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps to recommend changes to enhance system security and prevent unauthorized access.  

  • Assess internal and production environments ongoing to meet compliance. 

  • Report, investigate, and resolve security incidents. 

  • Work across organization boundaries to drive compliance requirements and security controls. 

  • Conduct research to be current on the latest security issues, threats, and technical capabilities of cloud solutions to recommend necessary countermeasures. 

  • Work well with others when conflicts arise, see opportunities, ensure alignment with objectives, find common ground, and promote understanding of alternative viewpoints. 

  • Support and promote the company values through positive interactions with both internal and external partners and customers on a regular basis. 

  • Other strategic business initiatives or cross-functional project involvement as required. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, technology, information security or equivalent years of relevant experience. 

  • 5+ years of experience working in cloud security. 

  • Experience implementing technical and procedural controls to meet policies and standards. 

  • Experience configuring and managing endpoint protection, responding to alerts, and reviewing log files. 

  • Experience analyzing and working with stakeholders to implement remediations from vulnerability scanners, penetration testing, and audit findings. 

  • Experience implementing cloud systems hardening, security policies, and controls 

  • Experience with and knowledge of Azure, AWS, and/or GCP, and M365. 

  • Experience working with alerts, logging, monitoring, and SIEM systems. 

  • Understanding of malware defense, security exploits, data protection, and logical and access controls. 

  • Ability to work in an on-call rotation for incident response on an as needed basis. 

  • Understanding of common system and application-level exploits. 

  • Familiar with technical business applications, cloud infrastructure and cloud risks and controls. 

  • Understanding of incident response, practices, and response. 

  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical diagrams and understand data flows. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to explain complex concepts to those without a technical background. 

  • Understanding of vulnerability and penetration testing methodologies a plus. 

  • Experience with regulatory and compliance frameworks such as ISO 2700x, ISO, NIST 800-53, CSC CIS-20, and SSAE18/SOC a plus. 

  • Industry related certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, and others a plus. 


Salary Range 

The base salary for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 annually. Consistent with applicable laws, compensation will be determined based on the candidate's level, relevant skills, qualifications, and experience along with requirements for the position and annual financial plans. 

Skillable is a distributed first team with employees working across the U.S., and we do not consider geography when determining compensation ranges. 

Please note that it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range. Skillable reserves the right to modify this compensation range at any time.

Working Conditions:  

The conditions for this position are in a remote home office setting, requiring a space that supports privacy and focus to attend to regular and frequent video and voice calls. Employees in this position will use their computer or phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Travel is anticipated up to 10% of the time for critical business meetings and industry events. Employees in this position are to be on an on-call rotation for incident responses on an as needed basis.
