About SmartSuite

SmartSuite is an enterprise, AI-powered work management platform founded by the original creator of ArcherIRM. We help organizations standardize and scale work across four pillars:

  • Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC)
  • IT & Service Operations
  • Business Resilience
  • Enterprise Operations

Today, SmartSuite is trusted by 2,000+ customers in 100+ countries, from high-growth startups to global financial institutions. We’re backed by leading investors including Canapi Ventures, High Alpha, and Sorenson Capital, giving us the resources to scale thoughtfully while still operating like a fast-moving startup.

Why SmartSuite?
  • High Impact: Own the cloud platform that powers mission-critical workflows for customers in financial services, technology, healthcare, and other highly regulated industries.
  • Modern, AI-Driven Stack: Work with a fully cloud-native, AWS-based SaaS platform that integrates generative AI, automations, and native integrations at its core.
  • Strong Engineering Culture: Join a product-obsessed team that values quality, pragmatism, and shipping meaningful work over ceremony and buzzwords.
  • Real Autonomy, Real Ownership: You’ll partner directly with senior engineering leadership and have a real say in architecture and platform strategy—not just “take tickets.”
  • Growth Stage, Not Chaos Stage: We’re past zero-to-one and now focused on scaling reliably and intelligently. Your work will directly shape how we grow.
What We Value
  • Innovation, Collaboration, Customer Success, Integrity, Diversity, and Gratitude.

About The Role

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS Cloud Platform) with deep experience running multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale to own and evolve the cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability stack that powers SmartSuite.

This is a hands-on senior role where you’ll:

  • Serve as a go-to expert for how we design, deploy, and operate our AWS environment.
  • Keep the platform reliable, secure, and performant as usage, data volume, and complexity grow.
  • Improve developer velocity through better tooling, pipelines, and automation.
  • Shape the platform that underpins our automations engine, native integrations, and AI-powered capabilities.

If you’ve done this before—taken a multi-tenant SaaS platform from “works” to “scales confidently”—this is the kind of impact you’ll have here.

What You'll Work On
  • Own our AWS infrastructure as code
    • Design, build, and maintain SmartSuite’s AWS environment using Terraform (and/or CloudFormation) following Infrastructure-as-Code best practices.
    • Standardize reusable modules and patterns for networking, compute, storage, security, and observability.
  • Lead CI/CD and deployment automation
    • Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment for our microservices and applications.
    • Implement blue/green or canary strategies where appropriate and continuously reduce deployment friction and risk.
  • Build a first-class observability stack
    • Implement and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure high availability and performance across services.
    • Help define and track SLIs/SLOs in partnership with engineering and product.
  • Partner with development teams
    • Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot infrastructure issues, optimize application performance, and refine deployment best practices.
    • Advocate for and enable patterns that improve reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Strengthen security & compliance posture
    • Manage and secure AWS IAM, VPC configurations, security groups, and other cloud-native security controls.
    • Contribute to security reviews and support our broader security, compliance, and audit initiatives.
  • Support containerized and distributed systems
    • Operate and optimize containerized workloads (Docker, ECS) and messaging/streaming systems such as SQS and Kafka.
    • Help design systems that are resilient to failure and easy to operate.
  • Continuously improve the platform
    • Identify and drive initiatives that improve scalability, automation, cost efficiency, and developer experience.
    • Influence platform architecture decisions that impact how quickly and safely we can deliver new capabilities.

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years in a DevOps, Platform, SRE, or Cloud Infrastructure role, with significant time owning production environments (not just supporting them).
  • Required: Hands-on experience operating and scaling a multi-tenant SaaS platform in production (e.g., high-availability, high-throughput workloads across many customers).
  • Deep AWS expertise, ideally with many of the following:
    • ECS, Lambda, VPC, S3, IAM, SQS, CloudWatch
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform (CloudFormation a plus).
  • Strong background in CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker, ECS; EKS or Kubernetes experience is a plus but not required).
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting using tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Go, or Bash).
  • A strong ownership mindset—you think in terms of SLAs, blast radius, and long-term reliability, not just “getting it to work.”
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; you’re comfortable working closely with developers, product managers, and leadership to ship reliable systems.

Nice to Have
  • Background working in or with highly regulated industries (e.g., financial services, healthcare).
  • Exposure to AI/ML workloads or event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks or compliance standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.).

Why You’ll Love Working Here

At SmartSuite, you’ll:

  • Shape the core platform that powers an AI-enabled, enterprise-grade work management product.
  • Work with a tight-knit, high-caliber engineering team that values ownership, candor, and continuous learning.
  • See your work directly impact thousands of organizations and tens of thousands of users.
  • Join a culture that celebrates collaboration, technical excellence, and meaningful impact—without big-company bureaucracy.

If you’re excited about building and scaling multi-tenant SaaS platforms on AWS and enabling teams to ship with confidence, we’d love to talk.
