Soluna is on a mission to solve one of renewable energy’s biggest challenges: wasted power. Our data centers convert excess solar, hydro, and wind energy into productive computational work, such as Bitcoin mining, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. By co-locating with renewable power sources, we bring demand directly to the source, helping power plants increase revenue while contributing more megawatts to the grid.
We are looking for a General Manager, Data Center Development to join our world-class team.
The GM, Data Center Development will own end-to-end development and delivery of Soluna’s hyperscale AI data center portfolio. This is a builder’s role—the person in this seat is accountable for getting infrastructure designed, constructed, commissioned, and operational at speed and scale. This role reports to the CEO as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will be responsible for the development, delivery, and operational readiness of large-scale data center projects purpose-built for AI and HPC workloads.
The ideal candidate has directly led and delivered large-scale hyperscale and AI/ML data center programs—from site evaluation through commissioning—with accountability for capital deployment, delivery schedules, and organizational execution. Career delivery of 100MW+ of critical infrastructure is expected; experience at 500MW+ or multi-campus scale is strongly preferred. This role is accountable for getting infrastructure designed, built, and commissioned on time and on budget.
You Will
- Own end-to-end development and delivery of Soluna’s hyperscale AI data center portfolio, from early-stage site evaluation through construction, commissioning, and handoff to operations.
- Define and execute the data center platform strategy, including standardized design frameworks, phasing plans, and delivery timelines optimized for AI and ML workloads.
- Build and lead a high-performing design and construction organization, establishing repeatable delivery platforms across a multi-site portfolio including procurement strategies, vendor ecosystems, and supply chain development.
- Direct capital deployment across concurrent large-scale infrastructure programs, maintaining accountability for schedule, budget, and delivery quality across all active projects.
- Define data center requirements, basis of design, phasing plans, and delivery timelines optimized for AI and ML workloads.
- Lead and coordinate development partners, including EPCs, A&E firms, and technology vendors—driving speed-to-market while maintaining delivery discipline across complex, concurrent programs.
- Ensure development schedules and technical designs align with power interconnection and delivery plans.
- Identify and advance data center sites based on customer demand, scalability, and speed-to-market considerations.
- Collaborate with the VP of Power on power development and grid integration activities.
- Translate hyperscaler and AI customer requirements into data center design, delivery schedules, and technical specifications—serving as the primary interface between customer demand and infrastructure execution.
- Develop and maintain deep relationships across general contractors, equipment vendors, mission critical supply chain partners, utilities, and hyperscale developers to accelerate delivery and de-risk programs.
- Represent Soluna externally with hyperscalers, infrastructure partners, and industry stakeholders—bringing credibility earned through direct delivery experience at scale.
- Maintain a strong understanding of hyperscale and AI infrastructure market dynamics.
- Build the vendor and partner ecosystem required to support multi-campus expansion, including design standardization, procurement leverage, and supply chain depth.
- Bring market insight back to the senior leadership team to inform investment, growth, and partnership decisions.
- Drive speed-to-market initiatives aligning infrastructure delivery with power availability, contracted capacity, and aggressive commissioning timelines.
What You Need to Get the Job Done
- 15+ years of experience in large, complex infrastructure development
- 5+ years leading hyperscale or AI/HPC data center development programs at a hyperscaler, developer, or colocation provider (e.g., Google, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, Equinix, Digital Realty, QTS, Iron Mountain, or comparable)
- Demonstrated delivery of 300MW+ of critical data center infrastructure; 500MW+ or multi-campus portfolio experience strongly preferred. Total career project value at scale (e.g., $3B+ in concurrent capital programs) is a differentiator
- Deep knowledge of power infrastructure, utility engagement, and grid interconnection—with direct experience coordinating infrastructure delivery with power availability and leasing timelines
- Deep industry relationships across general contractors, equipment vendors, EPCs, and mission critical supply chain partners built through direct delivery experience—not business development
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, self-directed design and construction organizations—including direct experience managing capital deployment and organizational leadership at the program or portfolio level
- Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on execution levels—setting the platform vision while remaining close enough to delivery to identify and resolve obstacles in real time
- Willingness to travel up to 50%
- Experience developing repeatable hyperscale infrastructure platforms including standardized design frameworks, procurement strategies, and vendor ecosystems supporting multi-campus or multi-site expansion
- Engineering or construction management background preferred (e.g., BS/MS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field)
