Medical Director
About Primary Brain Health
Primary Brain Health is building a new way for people to understand, navigate, and act on their brain health. We’re an early-stage company bringing together neurology, care navigation, and technology at a time when new tests and treatments are changing what’s possible.
We believe the time between a worry and an answer should be care, not a queue. Today, that time is spent waiting for a specialist, because all the work is bundled into one expert visit. We unbundle it. We bring a specialist’s thinking to people where they are, starting with their first concern, and we put them in charge of their own care with our tools and support. We measure the quality of every case and share what we learn as we go.
About the role
We are looking for a Medical Director to lead Primary Brain Health’s clinical teams, as we stand up our clinical practice. This is a dual role: you’ll see patients as a telehealth clinician, and you’ll own and oversee the clinical foundation of the practice, including the care pathways, protocols, quality and safety standards, and the clinical team that delivers them.
You’ll support patients and their families across a range of needs: people focused on prevention; people quietly concerned about health changes; people with clearly abnormal symptoms, tests or results; and people living with a diagnosis.
We’re looking for an experienced physician with real expertise in and passion for cognitive and brain health, who has helped build or lead a clinical program before, or is ready to step into that leadership now. You’ll join early enough to shape how this model of care works, and you’ll help choose and develop the team that delivers it, starting with our first Brain Health Navigators and providers.
This is a fully remote, Telehealth role.
What you'll do
Clinical leadership
- Serve as Medical Director of our professional medical practice, Primary Brain Health, P.A., working alongside our Chief Medical Officer, product, and operations teams.
- Design and own our clinical care pathways, protocols, and escalation pathways, from first conversation through evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing support.
- Set and monitor quality, safety, and clinical documentation standards; lead quality assurance and quality improvement as we grow.
- Ensure the practice meets state, federal, and telehealth regulatory requirements, including licensure, prescribing, and scope-of-practice rules across the states we serve. Overtime, clinical operations may break off into its own role, depending on our team makeup.
- Help recruit, onboard, and train Brain Health Navigators and Coaches, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Physicians, and provide day-to-day clinical supervision.
- Partner with product and operations on how clinical work shows up in our patient journey, tools, and digital assessments.
- Represent Primary Brain Health clinically with partners, referring clinicians, and health systems.
Patient care
- Conduct Telehealth visits to evaluate patients, interpret assessment results, and set clinical plans.
- Order and review tests.
- Prescribe and manage treatments.
- Refer patients to external partners, including neurology, neuropsychology, and other specialties, and to clinical trial liaisons as appropriate.
- Review escalated cases, answer clinical questions, and sign off on care plans for the Brain Health Navigator team.
- Communicate with patients’ primary care physicians and specialists to keep care coordinated.
What you Bring
- Active, unrestricted MD/DO license with board certification. Multi-state licensure is a strong plus, and you’re willing to obtain licenses in additional states. Goal to have coverage across US.
- DEA registration.
- 5+ years of clinical experience in neurology, geriatrics, geriatric psychiatry, primary care, or internal medicine, with meaningful experience in cognitive and memory care. Subspecialty training in cognitive or behavioral neurology is a plus.
- Experience in clinical leadership, such as serving as a medical director, building a clinical program or service line, writing and monitoring protocols, or supervising clinical teams. Telehealth or virtual-care leadership is a strong plus.
- Working knowledge of telehealth regulation, multi-state practice, and quality and safety programs.
- Strong knowledge of aging, cognition, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and dementia, and their relevant risks, as well as a prevention-and health optimization-focused approach to health.
- Skill and warmth delivering difficult news and supporting patients and families through it.
- Excitement about joining a fast-moving, early-stage team-oriented startup, and comfort with ambiguity and evolving workflows.
