About This Role

The Permit Specialist plays a key role in supporting the design and installation process by preparing, submitting, and tracking permit applications for residential solar projects. This position ensures all permitting documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with local and state requirements, helping to streamline the approval process and keep projects on schedule.

Overall Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit permitting packages for residential solar PV systems, battery storage, and related upgrades
• Review design documents for accuracy and ensure alignment with local building codes and jurisdictional requirements
• Communicate directly with building departments, AHJs, and utility companies to obtain permits and resolve any issues or redlines
• Track and manage the status of all permits using internal systems or project management software
• Work closely with in-house design, engineering, and project coordination teams to gather required documentation and ensure timely submissions
• Respond to permit rejections or revision requests and coordinate resubmissions
• Maintain accurate records of all permit submissions, revisions, and approvals
• Stay current with permitting requirements, code changes, and AHJ-specific rules
• Occasionally support interconnection or HOA documentation needs

Qualifications 

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 1+ year experience in permitting, solar operations, or administrative support within the construction industry
• Ability to read and understand basic site plans, electrical layouts, and construction documents
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written
• Experience working with permitting portals and AHJ systems (e.g., Accela, eTRAKiT) preferred
• Familiarity with solar design software (Aurora, Helioscope) is a plus
