HR Generalist

Spectrum Eye Physicians is one of the largest and most established ophthalmology and optometry practices in the Bay Area, with eight locations throughout Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working directly with employees and managers, can independently manage a broad range of human resources responsibilities, and wants a substantial part-time schedule. We are looking for someone who can not only compete HR duties, but be an advocate to our employees and their well being.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and managers
  • Provide guidance on employee relations, performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace concerns
  • Support managers with coaching, corrective action, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary documentation
  • Conduct or coordinate workplace investigations
  • Coordinate recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding
  • Process payroll accurately and on time through Rippling
  • Review employee hours, overtime, PTO, bonuses, deductions, and compensation changes
  • Administer employee leaves and workplace accommodations
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work matters
  • Manage the employee performance-review process
  • Maintain the employee handbook and HR policies
  • Monitor compliance with California and federal employment requirements
  • Coordinate required employee and supervisor training
  • Serve as the internal liaison with our outside benefits broker
  • Maintain HR records, reporting, and workforce metrics
  • Coordinate employee separations and terminations with management


The HR Generalist will receive administrative support for timekeeping, personnel records, recruiting coordination, onboarding paperwork, scheduling administration, and other routine HR functions. Department managers are responsible for reviewing and approving employee timecards before payroll processing.


Qualifications


  • At least three years of progressively responsible HR Generalist experience
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment practices and regulations
  • Hands-on payroll-processing experience
  • Experience managing employee-relations and performance issues
  • Experience administering employee leaves and accommodations
  • Excellent judgment, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and appropriately escalate significant concerns
  • Ability to handle sensitive employee and payroll information with strict confidentiality


Healthcare or medical-practice experience is strongly preferred.

Experience with Rippling or a comparable HRIS and payroll platform is preferred. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, PHRca, or a similar HR certification preferred.


Schedule and Compensation


This is a non-exempt position working approximately 32 hours per week. Some schedule flexibility may be required around payroll deadlines and significant employee-relations matters.


The position will be based primarily in Spectrum’s South Bay locations and may require occasional travel between offices.


Compensation: $42–$50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Medical, dental, in-house vision, Paid Time Off, Holiday Pay, 401k.
