Stellar Virtual was founded in 2019 with one school in Texas. We serve parents of K-12 students, unhappy with their current school, or needing an at-home/flexible learning environment. Today, Stellar Virtual has grown to six schools across three states: Texas, Arizona, and Indiana. Stellar Virtual is committed to going above and beyond for our virtual families.

Stellar Virtual is committed to ensuring our full-time employees have the tools they need to succeed in a virtual work environment. To support your role effectively, we provide a company-issued laptop, equipped with the necessary software, security features, and internal support. This does not apply to Independent Contractors (1099), part-time, seasonal, or unpaid individuals.

Employment with Stellar Virtual is on an at-will basis (only W2 employment types), meaning either the employee or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice, subject to applicable laws. Position Overview

As an Academic Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational needs of students with special needs in our virtual learning environment. You will provide academic counseling and guidance to students with special needs, addressing their unique challenges and helping them develop effective learning strategies. You will also be responsible for conducting ongoing assessments to identify academic strengths and challenges and monitor students' progress.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to develop and implement personalized IEPs for students with special needs.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to identify academic strengths and challenges and monitor students' progress towards achieving academic goals outlined in their IEPs.
  • Provide academic counseling and guidance to students with special needs, addressing their unique challenges and helping them develop effective learning strategies.
  • Work closely with virtual teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to ensure effective implementation of IEPs and the provision of necessary accommodations and modifications.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on students' progress, addressing concerns, and collaborating on strategies to support the student's academic success.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in special education, attend relevant workshops and conferences, and engage in continuous professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Advocate for the needs of students with special needs within the virtual learning environment, ensuring that they have equal access to educational opportunities and resources.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students' IEPs, assessments, and progress reports in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes 

  • Proven experience working as a Special Education Counselor in a virtual or traditional educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and support staff.
  • Familiarity with virtual learning platforms and technology used in online education.
  • Empathy, patience, and a passion for supporting students with special needs.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate student records.



Education & Certification Requirements

  • A master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university is required.
  • An active and valid school counseling certification in Texas.
  • At least three (3) years of successful School Counseling experience.


The pay range for this role is:

55,000 - 60,000 USD per year (Remote - United States)
