Steno is growing! We’re looking for a Director of Billing to join our winning team. In this role, you will collaborate with leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying client and provider billing expertise and guidance on projects and systems.

Who are you?

You have a background in designing, planning, and leading scalable billing operations, ideally in an industry that has strong compliance and regulatory requirements. You’ve worked with sales organizations to understand and streamline client costs into billing systems to achieve consistent results. You feel comfortable establishing, communicating, and implementing billing operations-related policies and standards to ensure effective and consistent support and execution. You think strategically about scaling your operation - utilizing methods such as workflow automations, AI integrations, and outsourced labor models to enable cost effective growth.

On a regular basis you will 

  • Identify, recommend, and implement new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and optimize organizational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Lead and mentor a team of professionals, including Billing team managers, providing guidance, support, and direction toward an overall vision
  • Balance priorities and drive workstreams short and long term; executing on immediate priorities while maintaining a focus on Steno’s Objectives & Key Results (OKR) strategy and building capabilities for both scalability and flexibility.
  • Lead coordination and integration of efforts among Operations, Production, and Customer Success divisions to improve workflow, operational efficiency and customer outcomes
  • Partner with compliance professionals to deliver strategic insight regarding expansion into new markets around the country, with a special focus on adherence to state and local regulations
  • Work closely with the Product team to understand and drive product offerings, pricing structures, and changes that impact billing processes
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to build hiring models that support team growth in alignment with company goals, and to own the consistent and predictable flow of revenue
  • Partner with Sales leadership to regularly review and strategize on rate structures and billing practices to ensure that both the billing and sales teams are in alignment

You’re gonna crush it if

  • You have 7+ years of accounting, billing, or finance experience within an industry that has strong compliance and regulatory requirements
  • You have managed managers before and successfully guided them to bring out the best in their teams
  • You are comfortable in high-growth settings with a demonstrated ability to enable organizations to scale
  • You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex billing data and identify trends and insights.
  • You have high-level communication skills  (written and oral) and experience collaborating cross-functionally in matrixed environments
  • You know when and how to say ‘No’ to untenable requests from cross functional stakeholders 
  • You’ve worked with Product and Engineering teams to aid in the development and on-going improvement of company billing products and projects  
  • You have set up policies and SOPs that are compliant with regional regulations and are knowledgeable on codes and regulations
  • You’ve created billing systems that can function in a multi-product organization, with consistent results across vastly different offerings

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary - $140,000 - $180,000

The billing team is a highly reliable and motivated team. A diverse group working throughout the country, the Billing team is responsible for outgoing firm invoices and providing payments to our third party providers and vendors. 


The Billing team are tech-savvy perfectionists and collaborative team players. They work under tight deadlines, but also constantly reevaluate their processes to drive efficiency and growth.
