Site Superintendent - Commercial Construction

SUGARED + BRONZED has redefined airbrush tanning with a proprietary solution and reintroduced an all-natural, ancient Egyptian method of hair removal called sugaring. Our commitment is to deliver exceptional services in vibrant, welcoming spaces that elevate your experience and brighten your day.

POSITION OVERVIEW

SUGARED + BRONZED is hiring a site superintendent to run day-to-day field operations on a commercial retail build-out in California. The superintendent is the company’s eyes, ears, and authority on site: responsible for keeping the project on schedule, holding subcontractors to quality and safety standards, keeping the site clean and inspection-ready at all times, and documenting progress daily. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes ownership of a job site — not a desk position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all on-site construction, build-out, and installation activities from mobilization through punch list and turnover.
  • Manage daily operations of subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers by scheduling trades, sequencing work, resolving conflicts, and enforcing project schedules and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with project plans, applicable codes, regulations, and company standards.
  • Communicate promptly with company representatives regarding any issues, delays, or changes that may impact the project timeline or budget.
  • Maintain site cleanliness and organization.
  • Complete and submit a daily site log with photographic documentation of progress, manpower, deliveries, weather, and project issues or delays; all logs and photos are company property.
  • Manage all subcontractor and vendor RFIs by logging, routing to the appropriate architect, engineer, or company representative, tracking to resolution, and maintaining an up-to-date RFI log.
  • Maintain organized records of inspections, deliveries, and change directives for weekly review.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of commercial construction experience, including prior experience as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, or foreman on commercial or retail build-out projects.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and hold trades to schedule.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Comfortable with daily digital reporting — photos, logs, and email/text communication from the field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field preferred, not required; equivalent field experience accepted.
  • Certifications such as NCCER Superintendent Certification or CCM (Certified Construction Manager) are a plus.

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS (CALIFORNIA):

California’s Cal/OSHA standards go beyond federal OSHA. The following are required for this role:

  • Cal/OSHA supervisor training — completion of construction supervisor safety training covering the Title 8 California Code of Regulations, including the Cal/OSHA supplement (federal OSHA cards alone are not sufficient in California).
  • OSHA 30-hour construction card, current.
  • Ability to serve as the site’s designated Cal/OSHA “competent person” — trained and able to identify hazards and empowered to stop work and impose corrective measures, with documented training in the areas relevant to this project (fall protection, scaffolds, excavation, and/or confined spaces as applicable).
  • Working knowledge of California heat illness prevention requirements (T8 §3395): water, shade, high-heat procedures, and monitoring.
  • First aid / CPR certification, current.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving record.

WHAT WE OFFER
