About Summer Discovery
Each summer, motivated middle and high school students have the opportunity to experience life and academics on a college campus with Summer Discovery. Our dynamic programs provide students opportunities to learn more about a subject area of their interest, explore their future careers, and meet like-minded peers. Students attend classes taught by qualified pre-college instructors, subject matter experts and industry professionals and gain hands-on learning experience in and outside of the classroom. Our mission is to provide the best experiential, university-based summer programs that positively impact students' lives academically and beyond.
The Course Instructor serves as the lead classroom coordinator for a Summer Discovery Academy enrichment course at University of California, Berkeley. Academies are interactive career exploration experiences for academically advanced high school students. Class is in session from 9-5 for two-week sessions centered around experiential learning relevant to the course content such as hands-on activities like organ dissection, suturing practice, emergency medicine simulations, and visits to local professional institutions. Several advanced-career professionals will also deliver guest lecturers to supplement student learning. Students are exposed to the profession to see what a “day in the life” is like while also developing durable leadership skills that will set them up for success in any future academic or professional pursuit.
A fully developed course curriculum will be provided by Summer Discovery Academics and the Course Instructor will receive training to ensure quality delivery of an experiential and engaging project-based course.
