Network & Edge Systems Engineer

About Synteq Digital

Synteq Digital is a high-growth, infrastructure-first technology firm delivering scalable compute and colocation solutions for AI, HPC, and latency-sensitive workloads. As we scale operations across multiple geographic regions, we are seeking a Network & Edge Systems Engineer to lead the buildout, automation, and support of high-availability compute, networking, and edge datacenter environments.

This role combines hands-on technical execution with strategic planning across our hybrid infrastructure footprint. The ideal candidate will have a background in network architecture, systems engineering, and datacenter operations with a proven track record of leading small, nimble teams in building resilient systems.

Reporting to the VP of HPC Operations, this role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable HPC solutions that meet evolving customer and business requirements.

This is an exempt, hybrid position with a preference to be located in Spokane, WA or Valley Forge, PA OR an ability to travel extensively.

Responsibilities:

  • Network Infrastructure & Systems Engineering
    • Architect and manage multi-site compute infrastructure with strong uptime, DR, and automation goals;
    • Integrate network, server, and virtualization platforms (e.g., Proxmox, KVM, PXE) into seamless deployments;
    • Automate infrastructure deployment and configuration using tools like Ansible, GitLab CI/CD, and custom scripts;
    • Maintain and improve internal monitoring, access-control, and credential systems.
  • Edge & Datacenter Operations
    • Lead regional rack/stack, diagnostics, and physical deployment efforts across 3+ core facilities;
    • Design and enforce SOPs around network failover, remote access, site security, and maintenance;
    • Manage diverse transport technologies including DWDM, BGP, VXLAN, and MPLS;
    • Maintain network SLAs and reduce operational overhead through documented, repeatable processes.
  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Serve as technical lead on key infrastructure rollouts, vendor evaluations, and expansion planning.
    • Mentor and support a team of engineers or contracted specialists.
    • Collaborate with sales, HPC, and colocation teams to align customer builds and expectations.
    • Contribute to customer-facing documentation and RFP support for advanced infrastructure needs.
  • Qualifications

    • 7+ years designing and operating high-uptime infrastructure (ISP, cloud, or datacenter environment preferred);
    • Deep expertise in IP networking (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN, EVPN), transport (DWDM), and routing optimization;
    • Strong Linux systems admin skills and virtualization knowledge (Proxmox, KVM, Debian, etc);
    • Proven experience in datacenter deployments and physical systems work (racking, fiber/copper cabling, diagnostics);
    • Automation experience using Ansible, Python, or Bash;
    • Familiarity with edge access solutions is a plus;
    • Strong communicator comfortable presenting infrastructure plans to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Personal Attributes

  • Builder mindset: hands-on with systems, but capable of strategic planning and cross-functional alignment;
  • Bias for action: you're comfortable with ambiguity and know how to make progress when others stall;
  • Operational rigor: clear thinker who documents, trains, and builds systems that outlive you;
  • Passion for the space and work.
