Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and operate modern data platforms in Azure. This is a hands-on role focused on building reliable, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and lakehouse architectures that support analytics, reporting, and advanced use cases such as machine learning and AI-driven insights.

You will work closely with client engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to translate data needs into well-architected technical solutions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning data pipelines end-to-end and thrives in a consulting-style environment where quality, performance, and clarity matter.

Key Focus Areas

• SQL Server / SSMS (including tuning and core database tasks)
• ETL development using Azure Data Factory
• Databricks / Spark for large-scale data processing
• Microsoft Fabric / OneLake
• Medallion (Bronze / Silver / Gold) lakehouse architecture

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Databricks
• Implement and operate within a Medallion (Bronze / Silver / Gold) data architecture
• Optimize SQL Server workloads to support analytics and reporting use cases
• Support and extend data solutions built on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake
• Ensure data quality, reliability, performance, and scalability across all pipelines
• Partner with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline and performance issues
• Participate in agile delivery practices including sprint planning, peer reviews, and production deployments
• Contribute to documentation and data engineering best practices at Tech9

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or database engineering
• Strong experience with SQL Server and performance tuning
• Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory
• Experience using Databricks and Apache Spark
• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or modern lakehouse platforms
• Solid understanding of OLTP vs. OLAP data patterns
• Experience building and supporting production-grade data pipelines
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Python for data engineering or pipeline development
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates)
• Experience with Azure data services such as Cosmos DB
• Experience supporting analytics, ML, or LLM-driven data pipelines
• Background working in consulting or client-facing delivery environments
