About the role

Techno is seeking an Inspector to join our corporate team in our New Jersey Office. In this role, you will ensure all work is aligned with engineering specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of heavy civil construction, and is comfortable working in the field to monitor and document ongoing operations.


What you'll do

  • Perform daily, on-site inspections of excavation, shaft, and tunneling activities to confirm compliance with project plans, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Validate that construction practices meet design and regulatory requirements, particularly related to large shafts and tunneling operations.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure quality, safety, and compliance standards are being met across all phases of work.
  • Ensure all construction workers and field crews adhere to OSHA, environmental, and project-specific safety protocols.
  • Actively observe and verify that work is being executed as scheduled and as designed, intervening when deviations occur.
  • Carry and maintain a field book to take detailed notes on daily work activities, conditions, and progress; report findings directly to the Resident Engineer.
  • Coordinate field operations between contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and communication.
  • Oversee independent testing activities to confirm material and installation quality.
  • Inspect equipment and materials used for excavation and tunneling, checking for conformance with project standards.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, non-compliance issues, and deficiencies, ensuring prompt corrective action in coordination with contractors.
  • Provide regular reports detailing work progress, inspection outcomes, identified issues, and actions taken.
  • Collaborate with engineers and construction supervisors to address field challenges such as unexpected ground conditions or equipment adjustments.
  • Support documentation efforts to ensure project records are complete, accurate, and aligned with regulatory and contractual requirements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction inspection or field supervision, with a strong background in civil construction.
  • Proven ability to monitor complex site operations and ensure conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with tunneling operations and underground construction is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project stakeholders, including contractors, clients, and utility providers.

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $48.08 - $79.33 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
