About the role
Techno is hiring its first-ever Director of Human Resources—a pivotal leadership role responsible for building and leading our HR function from the ground up. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will design and operationalize the people systems, policies, and practices that power our business—across compliance, onboarding, workforce planning, and people management.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced HR leader to create a best-in-class HR function that’s process-driven, compliant, and built to scale. You’ll bring modern tools, operational rigor, and strategic foresight to a fast-growing, project-based environment.
What you'll do
HR Strategy & Leadership
● Establish and lead the HR function with a focus on process design, compliance, and scalability
● Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and talent infrastructure
● Build company-wide HR policies and governance aligned with business goals and regulatory standards
● Ensure compliance with labor laws and HR regulations across all active states (e.g., NY, NJ, MA, MD)
● Maintain up-to-date employee handbooks, job classifications, and documentation practices
● Manage all reporting requirements, internal audits, and investigations
● Track and respond to regulatory changes affecting the AEC industry
● Own management of modern HRIS platforms such as Rippling, including employee records, time tracking, benefits, and payroll integrations
● Streamline and document HR workflows to ensure operational efficiency and data integrity
● Coordinate with payroll and finance for seamless processing of compensation, deductions, and compliance reporting
● Design and lead a comprehensive onboarding program that sets up new hires for long-term success
● Establish consistent onboarding processes for both corporate and field/project-based roles
● Improve employee experience touchpoints—from pre-hire to offboarding—ensuring clarity, compliance, and engagement throughout the employee lifecycle
● Serve as the point of contact for employee inquiries, HR escalations, and lifecycle questions
People Management Best Practices
● Develop scalable frameworks for performance management, goal setting, and feedback across departments
● Partner with leadership to support management capability-building, including training on policies, evaluations, and employee relations
● Create career pathways and role structures that support internal mobility and retention
● Set foundational people operations practices that support future scale (e.g., job architecture, level definitions, compensation bands)
Workforce Planning & Organizational Structure
● Collaborate with project and operations teams to build workforce plans that align with project needs and timelines
● Maintain org charts, headcount planning tools, and resource tracking processes
