About the role

Techno is seeking a highly experienced Director or Senior Manager of Finance—a foundational hire who will build and lead the company’s finance function. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role offers unmatched executive visibility and the chance to influence both strategy and operations at a critical stage of growth.

You will be responsible for establishing and overseeing all financial disciplines, including strategic finance, accounting, FAR-based reporting, billing, compliance, and systems optimization. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with deep experience in AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) and a strong command of city/state-funded project accounting in the Tri-State area.

What you'll do

Strategic Finance & Executive Leadership

  • Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and executive leadership on all financial matters
  • Build and lead annual planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Provide financial models, KPIs, and business insights to support growth strategy
  • Prepare board-level reports and help shape long-term investment and hiring decisions

Accounting, Reporting & Compliance

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, and monthly/annual close
  • Ensure accurate preparation of FAR-compliant financials for government-funded contracts, while maintaining GAAP-based internal statements for management and auditors
  • Implement and maintain internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance (federal, state, and local)
  • Lead all external financial audits, tax filings, and financial disclosures

Project Billing & Cost Management

  • Own the full lifecycle of project billing and cost reporting—from time entry to client invoicing
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure timely, accurate billing and cost tracking
  • Standardize WIP, margin tracking, revenue recognition, and client reporting across multi-agency contracts
  • Drive process improvements that streamline billing cycles and cash collection

Systems, Process & Team Development

  • Design scalable systems, tools, and workflows to support rapid growth
  • Evaluate and implement financial technology or ERP upgrades as needed
  • Collaborate with HR, operations, and project management teams to ensure financial alignment
  • Help recruit and mentor future finance team members as the department scales

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or FP&A roles
  • Experience in the AEC industry, with direct exposure to civil engineering or construction firms working with city/state government agencies
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Deep expertise in FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) is mandatory
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP, with the ability to manage both frameworks in parallel
  • Proven success building or leading finance functions in growing organizations
  • Strong understanding of project costing, billing, and time-and-materials business models
  • High proficiency with financial systems and Excel; experience with platforms like Deltek, QuickBooks, or other ERPs a plus
  • Executive presence and strong communication skills—able to clearly present data to non-financial stakeholders
