POSITION SUMMARY:
Terra Dotta is seeking a motivated Business Development Representative (BDR) to join our sales team. As a BDR, you will be responsible for generating new business opportunities and building a robust sales pipeline for our Enterprise Account Executives. This role requires strong prospecting, lead qualification, and communication skills, with a focus on the higher education sector. The ideal candidate will demonstrate resourcefulness in identifying potential clients, resilience in handling objections, and effectiveness in booking qualified meetings. You will play a crucial role in the initial stages of our sales process, helping to drive company growth through strategic outreach and relationship building.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Prospect and identify potential clients within the higher education sector that match Terra Dotta's ideal customer profile
- Qualify leads through in-depth research and discovery calls to determine fit, budget, authority, need, and timing
- Execute strategic outreach campaigns via phone, email, and social media to generate interest in Terra Dotta's solutions
- Book qualified meetings for Enterprise Account Executives with decision-makers at target institutions
- Nurture relationships with prospects who aren't ready to buy but show potential for future opportunities
- Research and stay informed about prospect institutions, higher education trends, and competitive offerings
- Track and document all activities in the CRM (Salesforce or HubSpot) to ensure accurate pipeline reporting
- Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly KPIs for outreach activities, qualified leads, and booked meetings
- Collaborate with Marketing to leverage campaigns and content in outreach strategies
- Provide feedback to Product and Marketing teams based on prospect interactions and market intelligence
- Participate in team meetings to share best practices, success stories, and areas for improvement
- Represent Terra Dotta professionally in all communications and at occasional industry events
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 1-3 years of experience in sales, preferably in a BDR/SDR role
- Demonstrated ability to conduct effective research and quickly learn about new industries and organizations
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage prospects across multiple channels
- Resilience and persistence in the face of rejection and ability to maintain a positive attitude
- Experience with CRM systems like Salesforce or HubSpot
- Basic understanding of sales methodologies and qualification frameworks
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of sales or customer-facing experience
- Experience in education technology or SaaS industries preferred but not required
- Familiarity with higher education institutions and their buying processes is a plus
