Position Overview:
Terra’s Marine business continues to succeed, and Terra is seeking to add a full-time, Marine Survey Technician to assist with marine geophysical and hydrographic surveying; including but not limited to acoustic positioning and imaging as well as data processing and reporting.
This role is a great fit if you love to travel the waters of BC and know your way around a boat (on land and in water). In this role, you will be exposed to singe-beam & multibeam echo-sounders, scanning sonars, including, side scan sonars, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, water level gauges, DGPS systems as well as interfacing navigation and data collection software. Experience in one of these areas is required. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, possess an ambitious work ethic and be an effective team player. The role is ideal for someone who has a secondary school/college education with a focus in geography/ survey and/or ocean sciences and wants to work and learn from a skillful and experienced team.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Marine Operations, the successful candidate is responsible for:
· Assisting with the maintenance of boat, navigation, and positioning equipment.
· Following work instructions and documentation in relation to assigned projects.
· Trailering to job sites and operating small boats.
· Data processing and client data preparation.
· Participate as needed in project preparation, execution and wrap up.
Job Requirements
· Demonstrated commitment to safety.
· Experience working on a marine vessel for extended periods of time.
· Both field and office work require heavy lifting of equipment.
· Ability to work an unconventional work schedule, extended days and evening / weekend hours in order to meet project deadlines.
· Knowledge of marine geophysical and hydrographic surveying equipment.
· Experience trailering and operating small boats (up to thirty-five feet in length). Boat Operator Certificate (SVOP or equivalent) is required.
· SVOP, MEDS, SRT, and First Aid certifications are all preferred.
· A valid Driver’s License required.
· A valid and clear criminal record check is required upon hire.
