Position Summary:

The Insure Your Future Internship Program is a partnership between the Iowa Economic Development Authority and participating insurance companies and agencies throughout the state of Iowa.  It is targeted at sophomore-level college students (with consideration for freshmen as well) to gain experience in Iowa's insurance industry and ignite a path toward a rewarding career.  Iowa's strong position in the insurance and financial services sector contributes to plentiful career opportunities with upward mobility and significant earnings potential when compared to other industries.  Through this program, students will acquire real-world experience and see participating companies from multiple lenses. In addition, program interns will enjoy the chance to network together through four leadership development events during the summer, coordinated by the participating companies.


Accel's Program:

This internship opportunity is an 8-week rotational experience focused on exposing interns to The Accel Group’s various business units, in addition to providing opportunities that focus on personal and professional growth, networking, and relationship building.  Examples of areas you may get to work with include Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, Claims, Employee Benefits, Wealth Management, and Operations.  Our goal is that our interns will:

  • Contribute to real projects within the organization and have the ability to apply knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills that make a meaningful impact. 
  • Participate in renewal and/or new client meetings with sales advisors, as well as learn best practices for new client prospecting.  
  • Observe our customer service teams and learn about the importance of building strong relationships with our customers and carrier partners. 
  • Work side-by-side with our operational support staff and learn about the inner workings of an insurance agency. 
  • Contribute to and become involved with other projects or duties that may be of interest to you. 

Location & Flexible Work Options:

  • Interns can be located in our Cedar Rapids, Waverly, or West Des Moines office, so we welcome students interested in any of those locations. The opportunity also includes flexible hours and the opportunity for hybrid work arrangements. 

Compensation:

  • This is a full-time, paid internship during the months of June and July 2026.  Interns will earn $17.00 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Freshman- or Sophomore-level college student. 
  • Excellent computer skills, with the ability to utilize Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, and Excel), the internet, and other agency management systems. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Excellent service-oriented skills.
