Purpose of the Role:
We’re seeking a detail-oriented, strategically-minded F&B Accountant with multi-state tax and hospitality experience to join our growing finance team. This role will oversee accounting operations across our multi-unit food & beverage portfolio and will work closely with GMs, chefs, and senior leadership to drive financial performance, ensure compliance, and manage the complexities of restaurant accounting in multiple jurisdictions.
Responsibilities:
Tax Management & Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with sales, alcohol, use, and local taxes across all operating states.
- Prepare and file various state tax returns; maintain documentation and audit readiness.
- Monitor and interpret state tax changes impacting the F&B industry; implement process updates as needed.
- Lead responses to state and local tax audits or inquiries.
Core Accounting Operations
- Oversee accounts payable, receivables, bank reconciliations, payroll, GL, and billing for all F&B properties.
- Execute the monthly close with accuracy and timeliness.
- Reconcile daily sales from Clover and Toast POS systems; ensure integration accuracy with QuickBooks Online (QBO).
- Utilize MarginEdge for invoice processing, cost tracking, and vendor management.
- Manage credit card batch reconciliation, deposits, and third-party platform reports (e.g., Uber Eats, DoorDash).
- Prepare P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements for individual outlets and consolidated reporting.
- Process journal entries, accruals, and amortizations as part of period-end procedures.
F&B Costing, Inventory & Analytics
- Develop and maintain menu item costing models, including recipes, waste, and ingredient fluctuations.
- Analyze COGS trends, labor ratios, and inventory turnover for optimization opportunities.
- Conduct physical inventory audits and reconcile with MarginEdge data.
- Collaborate with chefs and GMs to support menu pricing, engineering, and profitability.
- Provide regular KPI and sales analysis reports, including:
Food & beverage cost %
Labor cost %
RevPASH
Average check
Outlet/daypart/category performance
- Leverage POS data to identify opportunities around pricing, promotions, and product mix.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Process vendor invoices; maintain accurate coding and payment schedules.
- Manage vendor credit terms and applications; ensure timely submissions with Accounting support.
- Foster relationships with restaurant GMs, chefs, operations leaders, and vendors.
- Provide financial support for menu development, operational strategy, and resource planning.
Accounting Systems & Reporting
- Collaborate with Enterprise Level Accounting and HR on:
Vendor set-up & ordering procedures
Payroll processing & labor reporting
Licensing fee submissions (e.g., alcohol, food service, tax registrations)
Inventory controls & forecasting
POS system integration & margin reporting
- Participate in monthly P&L reviews, providing variance explanations and operational insights.
Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Experience:
- Experience with startup or fast-growth hospitality companies.
- Advanced knowledge of restaurant inventory management, cost modeling, and menu profitability.
- Familiarity with tools like M3, Quickbooks, Margin Edge a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in multi-location restaurant or hospitality operations.
- Demonstrated multi-state tax filing and compliance experience (sales, alcohol, use tax).
- Strong command of Restaurant industry software systems.
- Expertise in GAAP, with specific knowledge of F&B cost tracking and reporting.
- Strong Excel skills and ability to manage data integrity across systems.
- Excellent communication skills; able to distill financial data for non-financial team members.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work under pressure
