About the role

The Revenue Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the revenue accounting processes as well as tracking, recording and reporting the related cost of sales for the global company. This includes ensuring accurate and timely revenue recognition, accurately capturing, allocating and analyzing costs, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and supporting audits. The role is crucial in maintaining compliance with accounting standards and ensuring that revenue and costs are recognized in line with business practices.


What you'll do

  • Revenue Recognition:
    • Oversee and ensure proper revenue recognition in compliance with relevant accounting standards (such as ASC 606).
    • Work closely with the sales and operations teams to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition for all advertising campaigns, events and media contracts.
    • Review contracts and other documentation to identify the appropriate revenue recognition methodology.
  • Cost Tracking and Allocation:
    • Oversee the tracking and allocation of all direct costs associated with services provided.
    • Work closely with the sales and operations teams to gather relevant data on time and materials for accurate percent of completion.
    • Calculate sales commissions in accordance with company policies, ensuring accuracy in commission rates, quotas and payment schedules.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Support the month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring all revenue and cost transactions are recorded accurately.
    • Assist in preparing financial reports related to revenue and cost of sales to assess the profitability of each line of business and perform analysis to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

 

  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the Sales, Marketing, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure accurate data flow and smooth coordination between departments.
    • Provide guidance on revenue recognition issues and assist teams in structuring contracts to ensure compliance with accounting standards. 
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and industry regulations related to revenue accounting.
  • Support external audits as necessary.
  • Maintain proper documentation of revenue recognition processes and decisions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or relevant certifications preferred.
  • 5-8 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on revenue recognition, preferably in the advertising or media industry.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Netsuite and project accounting.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific billing processes and revenue models.

This role requires a combination of technical accounting expertise, familiarity with advertising business models, and strong communication and problem-solving skills. It’s ideal for someone with an eye for detail and a passion for ensuring compliance in a fast-paced industry.

The pay range for this role is:

100,000 - 110,000 USD per year (Remote - United States)
