About the role
As our Engineering Manager, you will be the deputy to the Head of Engineering, serving as their key partner in setting technical vision, driving architectural decisions, managing the team, and fostering a world-class engineering culture. This is a role for a "player-coach", an expert builder who finds deep satisfaction in multiplying their impact by mentoring others, solving the toughest challenges, and ensuring our technical systems propel the business forward. This is a hybrid position based in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA.
What you'll do
- Act as a Technical Partner: Serve as the primary technical deputy to the Head of Engineering. You'll be a trusted partner in our most critical technology decisions, responsible for helping guide our long-term technical strategy and ensuring the systems we build today are ready for the challenges of tomorrow.
- Drive Technical Excellence: Lead critical design reviews and serve as a key technical stakeholder in roadmap planning. You will establish and evangelize engineering best practices, identify and advocate for paying down technical debt, and act as the lead troubleshooter for our most complex challenges.
- Write Code and Set the Standard: Remain a highly technical, hands-on contributor. You will spend a significant portion of your time writing, reviewing, and shipping high-quality code for our most critical systems, acting as a clear example of engineering excellence for the entire organization.
- Mentor and Develop Engineers: Directly manage and mentor a couple engineers, guiding their career growth through empathetic coaching and continuous feedback. Your goal is not to run a team's operations, but to personally invest in and grow our next generation of technical leaders.
- Champion Engineering Culture: Partner with the Head of Engineering to cultivate a culture of psychological safety and continuous learning. You'll actively lead by example, fostering an environment where engineers are empowered to innovate and do their best work.
