The Organization:

At Thrive Scholars, we provide high-achieving students from under-resourced communities the opportunities they need to thrive at top colleges and in meaningful careers.

Our comprehensive and data-driven program model focuses on the key inflection points that can be the difference between graduating from any college and graduating from a top college with the grades, degree, career skills, and network needed to thrive in any career. Thrive Scholars originated in Los Angeles as South Central Scholars (“SCS”) twenty years ago. Over this time, the organization has refined its program model and, in the last five years, has focused on expanding nationally; reaching more high-achieving students from under-resourced communities, growing the number of Scholars we serve; and deepening our program impact. Thrive Scholars has begun to grow its footprint with new summer program offerings in three additional cities. The organization has approximately 75 year-round employees and close to 200 summer employees.

The Internship Experience:

As an Intern at Thrive Scholars, you will get first hand experience learning the ins and outs of a growing non-profit. With the collaborative nature of our organization, you’ll have the opportunity to work across departments and contribute to new projects and initiatives. Interns will receive mentoring from their supervisors and other staff, as well as the opportunity to communicate and network with professionals across career fields.

The Opportunity:

As the Admissions Intern, your focus will be twofold:

First, you will work directly with us to support the recruitment and selection process as we shape our newest cohort of Scholars. Projects may include:

  • Calling and texting students to provide support on completing their applications
  • Responding to Asana tasks from prospective scholars and counselor partners regarding their applications or recommendation forms.
  • Assisting with gathering recommendation forms from counselors and teachers
  • Conducting application audits to confirm academic and financial details
  • Facilitating breakout groups during onboarding programing for new students

Second, you will play an important role in content creation to support our team’s marketing efforts. Projects may include:

  • Contributing to building a communication plan
  • Creating social media posts
  • Writing blog posts
  • Interviewing scholars and gathering student testimonials
  • Engaging with our university partner admissions officers as invited contributing authors to Thrive’s blog
  • Drafting and/or editing emails
  • Updating the admissions website

This internship will also provide the opportunity to work in such platforms such as Salesforce CRM, Account Engagement, Zoom Events, Wix, and more.

The ideal intern candidate will demonstrate:

  • A high level of initiative and accountability
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate and work as a team member
  • Genuine enthusiasm and ability to work in a high-energy virtual environment
