Job Overview:
We’re seeking a Director of Web Development to own our entire web platform and web infrastructure. This leader will be both highly technical and deeply strategic - able to architect and operate WordPress websites that handle millions of visitors, manage a high-performing team, and deliver flawless execution. You’ll lead the development and operation of high-impact websites, landing pages, and web applications that directly drive growth and revenue.
Initially, you will manage one Fullstack Developer, with responsibility to build and scale the team over time. This is a hands-on leadership role that demands deep expertise in WordPress web development and operations, proven success running high-traffic websites, strong management skills, and sharp product/UX intuition.
Responsibilities:
- Lead strategy, architecture, and execution for all web development and operations at TopDog Law.
- Manage and mentor the Web Development team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Oversee design, development, and deployment of high-performing websites and landing pages, with a strong focus on UX, CRO, and split testing.
- Ensure excellence in fullstack WordPress development, including custom frameworks, ACF, page builders, and REST API integrations.
- Own site infrastructure and operations: hosting, CDNs, Cloudflare, Pagely, monitoring (e.g., New Relic), performance, and security.
- Establish and maintain efficient DevOps practices: environment setup (dev/staging/prod), Composer workflows, CI/CD pipelines, deployment scripting, and GitHub workflows.
- Manage projects end-to-end: scoping, prioritization, timelines, QA, launch, and measurement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, IT, and Operations to ensure web platforms align with business strategy.
- Drive adoption of best practices in UX, accessibility, performance optimization, and site monitoring.
- Ensure seamless execution of large-scale projects such as site redesigns, migrations, and re-architectures with zero downtime.
- Apply a strong understanding of on-page SEO, technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, and site performance optimization best practices.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in web development, with at least 3+ years in a leadership/management role.
- Proven success leading high-traffic websites (millions of visits), ensuring uptime, scalability, and performance.
- Expertise in WordPress fullstack development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript/React, PHP, Composer, NPM, REST APIs.
- Expertise in DevOps for web: environment setup (dev/staging/prod), CI/CD pipelines, plugin versioning, deployment scripting, GitHub workflows.
- Deep experience with hosting, CDNs, Cloudflare, Pagely, and monitoring tools like New Relic.
- Track record of managing complex website redesigns end-to-end, including translating wireframes (e.g., Figma) into functional sites.
- Strong understanding of UX and product management, with hands-on experience in analytics and optimization (Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console, Unbounce, etc.).
- Experience building, leading, and scaling high-performing technical teams.
- Excellent project management and stakeholder communication skills.
- Proven experience implementing SEO strategies end-to-end, including optimizing on-page content, executing technical SEO improvements, and improving Core Web Vitals to boost search rankings and site performance.
