Careers at Torus

Solutions Engineer

About Torus

Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 540,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. Our mission is to build the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure — built to unite people and communities through resilient, secure, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.

At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.

About the Role

The Solutions Engineer at Torus sits at the intersection of deep technical expertise and customer-facing sales engagement. You will partner closely with our commercial team to qualify opportunities, design tailored energy storage solutions, and shepherd prospects through technical due diligence. You’ll be the engineering voice of Torus in front of customers — translating complex system architecture into compelling, accurate proposals while providing the technical depth that closes deals. This role reports into our commercial organization and works hand-in-hand with product engineering, project development, and operations to ensure every solution we put in front of a customer is both technically sound and commercially viable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for the sales team, supporting pre-sales engagements from initial discovery through proposal and contract execution
  • Conduct site assessments and technical qualification of customer opportunities, including load analysis, interconnection review, and project feasibility
  • Design and size Torus hybrid BESS/flywheel solutions to meet customer technical requirements, including peak shaving, demand response, backup power, and grid services applications
  • Develop and present technical proposals, system one-line diagrams, performance models, and ROI analyses tailored to each customer’s needs
  • Lead technical discussions with customers, utilities, EPCs, and consulting engineers — translating Torus’s technology into clear, differentiated value propositions
  • Collaborate with product engineering to ensure proposed configurations are manufacturable and supportable within current product capabilities
  • Respond to RFPs, RFIs, and technical questionnaires with accuracy and urgency
  • Maintain and continuously improve pre-sales technical collateral including application guides, comparison matrices, and case studies
  • Support contract negotiations by providing technical input on performance guarantees, warranty terms, and O&M obligations
  • Capture and communicate customer feedback and market intelligence to inform product roadmap decisions
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in energy storage, power systems, or a related field, with direct exposure to pre-sales or applications engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS), power electronics, and grid interconnection
  • Experience sizing and modeling energy storage systems for commercial, industrial, or utility customers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficiency with load data analysis and energy modeling tools (e.g., HOMER, RETScreen, or similar)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to executive-level stakeholders
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple concurrent opportunities in a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites and industry events (estimated 25–40%)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with flywheel energy storage or hybrid energy systems
  • Familiarity with utility tariff structures, demand charge optimization, and behind-the-meter economics
  • Experience supporting utility, C&I, or microgrid project development
  • Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and relevant interconnection standards (UL 9540, IEEE 1547)
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM or similar sales tools
  • PE license or EIT certification

You’ll be a great fit if you have a passion for helping to solve complex energy challenges and are committed to finding new innovative ways to preserve and enhance our planet. As a member of a rapidly growing company, you’ll add incredible value as a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, technically demanding environment.
