About the role

Berkeley Ironworks is seeking Belay Staff to support youth and adult events.

This role is ideal for a responsible, attentive, outgoing, and enthusiastic individual who is comfortable working in a climbing gym environment. Candidates must understand the inherent risks and safety requirements of a Touchstone facility and be able to clearly communicate and uphold those standards with all Touchstone members and guests.

Belay Staff will supervise and belay youth and adult groups and, when needed, teach introductory group classes for both bouldering and top-rope climbing. Applicants must be competent and confident belaying, teaching, and comfortable engaging with both younger children and adults.

Availability: This role requires weekend availability. Weekday events may also be scheduled between 9am and 8pm.

Qualities of an ideal candidate:

• Responsible and attentive, ensuring the climbing gym remains a safe and welcoming environment for all.
• A genuine passion for climbing and working with people.
• Able to take initiative and be appropriately assertive when needed.
• Holds a Touchstone laminated belay card or has equivalent skills.
• Able to commit to three or more shifts per week, with availability on both weekdays and weekends.
• Flexible schedule with the ability to support last-minute event bookings.

Compensation and How to Apply

Starting pay is $19.18 an hour. Belay Staff individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to; facility location and type, membership volume, experience, and job/position tenure.
