Job Overview

We are hiring for an electrical hardware engineer to carry out hardware development for power electronics projects for automotive and industrial electrification.

The role is based at our site in Gateshead and reports into the Head of Hardware and Regulatory.


Key Responsibilities

In this role the Electrical Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Work in a team of engineers with various disciplines
  • Develop power electronics for use in automotive and industrial applications
  • Interpret system specifications to produce hardware functional specifications
  • Carry out circuit design, analysis, documentation, simulation, testing and debugging
  • Type testing and writing of procedures
  • Supervision and guidance of technicians
  • Supporting other engineering disciplines for hardware design related issues
  • Ensuring that hardware design follows the company hardware and quality processes and procedures
  • Ensuring that hardware design meets relevant national and international standards
  • Ensuring designs meet hardware product safety standards


The Requirements

We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • Demonstratable experience in an electrical engineer position or recent graduate
  • Able to follow design processes to assure quality of hardware design and development
  • Design experience in electronics
  • Hands on debugging and analysis of hardware
  • Supporting or creating PCB layouts and schematic capture
  • Good understanding of electronic principals
  • Analysis to component level on electronic hardware


Bonus Points

It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • Analogue electronics, signal acquisition and conditioning
  • Low power SMPS design
  • Digital electronics, microcontrollers, logic circuits and similar
  • Simulation of electronic circuits
  • PCB layout and design
  • Analysis skills such as FMEA, FTA, tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, etc.
  • Development to relevant standards such as REG10, REG100, ISO16750, CISPR 25, EN61800


Qualifications

A degree or equivalent in the following discipline is required: Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Relevant experience could also be considered.
