Product Scientist (Intelligence) - Remote

Teamworks Intelligence, formerly Zelus Analytics, is seeking Product Scientists with a passion for sports to enhance and extend the capabilities of our cutting-edge sports analytics platforms. This role offers an opportunity to work directly with NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA, and global soccer teams to provide actionable insights and drive innovation in sports intelligence. Our Product Scientists play a key role in bridging data science, engineering, and sports decision-making, working across multiple teams to translate analytics into real-world applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Support partner teams by preparing analyses and reports in response to ad-hoc requests.
  • Develop internal tools to analyze, visualize, and communicate model outputs effectively.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to refine and implement sports analytics models.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively with internal teams and external sports partners.
  • Draft, develop, and review presentations and documentation for internal and external use.
  • Validate and coordinate platform releases, ensuring high standards of reliability and accuracy.
  • Stay informed on trends in sports analytics, attend conferences, and engage with research communities.

Additionally, a Product Scientist II will be expected to:

  • Lead coordination of cross-functional projects, tracking progress and aligning key stakeholders.
  • Drive conversations with potential and existing partners to support business development.
  • Anticipate roadblocks and proactively manage project risks, ensuring successful execution.

Additionally, a Senior Product Scientist will be expected to:

  • Provide mentorship and feedback to junior team members.
  • Identify and prioritize new platform capabilities, balancing client needs and strategic goals.
  • Make significant technical contributions, including model validation and deployment.
  • Ensure alignment with platform roadmaps, proactively managing potential challenges.
  • Maintain expert domain knowledge in a specific sport, driving deeper insights for partners.
  • Guide platform development strategies across all sports intelligence initiatives.
  • Support executive leadership in developing partnerships and presenting customized analytics solutions.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of key sports analytics concepts, such as player evaluation, strategy, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience applying data and analytics to enhance team and player performance, ideally in a front-office setting.
  • Proficiency in implementing, interpreting, and validating quantitative models, including statistics, machine learning, and optimization.
  • Technical skills in relational databases and data analysis techniques.
  • Competency in Python and/or R for mathematical and statistical programming.
  • Strong communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Familiarity with Agile project management, version control (GitHub), and relevant software development workflows.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in statistics, data science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working with large, complex sports datasets.
  • Prior experience in a front office, analytics department, or sports tech company.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative research environment.

Compensation Philosophy:

For this role, the salary range is $121,000-141,000 with your final offer determined by your experience, skills, and interview performance. Every Teamworks teammate is an owner, with equity aligning your success with ours.
