About the role

United Way Bay Area (UWBA) seeks a dynamic and ambitious institutional fundraising professional to advance UWBA’s mission, vision, and strategy to end poverty in the Bay Area.  This role is responsible for the development of effective grants strategies to expand UWBA’s revenue stream. The Director, Institutional Partnerships plays a pivotal role in building internal and external partnerships and is responsible for nurturing relationships with funders from prospecting to cultivation, writing proposals, and stewardship.  

 

The Director, Institutional partnerships also secures both grant renewals as well as new funding opportunities. In this critical role, the Director will manage a portfolio of current and prospective funders while also developing and maintaining an annual grants calendar. Additionally, this individual will lead the identification of new grant opportunities from private foundations, corporations, and government agencies. The Director will be supervised by the Senior Director, Institutional Partnerships, and will collaborate with the Grants Manager and internal teams to develop and implement ambitious plans to support all areas of our work.  



What you'll do

  • Write persuasive proposals and reports 
  • Manage a robust annual grants calendar  
  • Manage a portfolio of institutional donors from identification, cultivation, proposal and report preparation, submission and stewardship 
  • Collaborate with the Development team, as well as Marketing, Community Impact, and Finance teams to steward and grow UWBA's donor base 
  • Partner with the Finance and Community Impact teams to prepare comprehensive proposal budgets 
  • Track the submission of timely, accurate well-written narrative and financial reports 
  • Acknowledge grant awards and acquire needed gift documentation  
  • Ensure grant deliverables are communicated to the Community Impact and Finance Teams 
  • Ensure the timely and accurate entry of all data, deliverables, timelines, and communications in Salesforce 
  • Develop and document policies and procedures, as necessary 
  • Develop strategies for each partnership and establish and be accountable to measurable goals and objectives 
  • Conduct prospect research 
  • Monitor progress toward fiscal year goals and report weekly to the Senior Director on progress, opportunities, and challenges 


Qualifications

  • 7 years of related experience 
  • Support an inclusive environment and value the unique lived experiences, skills, and talents of all internal and external stakeholders 
  • Exceptional, concise, compelling, and clear writing and communication style (a writing sample will be required) 
  • Strong project management skills, particularly the ability to manage competing deadlines and work professionally under time constraints 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and external partners to drive projects forward 
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and ambitious 
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and deadline driven  
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 265 products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint 
  • Experience using project management and research tools 
  • Experience using CRMs; knowledge of Salesforce a plus 
  • Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  • Four-year college degree desired or equivalent work experience 


UWBA is committed to equitable and transparent compensation practices. The salary listed for this role has been thoughtfully determined based on our structured approach to pay equity. As part of this commitment, we do not engage in salary negotiations.

The pay range for this role is:

117,000 - 117,000 USD per year (UWBA Office)
