UX Developer

Location: Based in Austin, TX (hybrid)


Valkyrie is an applied science firm that builds industry-defining custom AI, ML and Knowledge Engineering solutions. Our interdisciplinary applied science teams support our clients from data normalization all the way through model deployment. Our work can be found across industry from SiriusXM, Activision, Chubb Insurance, and the Department of Defense, to name a few.


User Experience (UX) Developer Position:

We're seeking a UX Developer / Design Technologist with a foundation in software engineering to bridge the gap between design and development. The UX Developer will lead the design efforts across Valkyrie’s range of products. You’ll create user flows, wireframes, and prototypes that are not only user-centric but technically informed—ensuring designs are feasible, scalable, and elegant in implementation. As the UX Developer, you will be responsible for:

  • Design user interactions and flows that are intuitive, accessible, and visually engaging
  • Translate complex product requirements into well-structured, functional design systems
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and designers to shape product direction
  • Designs and creates prototypes to test and validate design concepts with users and stakeholders
  • Leverage your development knowledge to inform design decisions and anticipate technical constraints
  • Ensure designs are development-ready and assist in bridging the gap between design and code
  • Advocate for design best practices, usability standards, and accessibility

 

User Experience (UX) Developer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in UX/UI design and development, with a portfolio showcasing complex projects
  • 3+ years of Interaction design experience
  • Proficient in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure)
  • Experience creating visual representations (wireframes and prototypes) of user interfaces to test and refine designs
  • Strong experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to translate design concepts into functional and user-friendly interfaces
  • Experience working in agile product teams
  • Ability to balance user needs with technical feasibility and business goals
  • Strong ability to effectively collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Familiarity with basic artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts (classification, clustering, model inputs/outputs, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience designing for web and mobile applications is a plus
  • Familiarity with design systems and component-based design is a plus
  • Ability to code interactive prototypes or contribute to front-end development is a plus

The pay range for this role is:

110,000 - 125,000 USD per year (Austin)
