Job Description:

The Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Counselor provides counseling services (group and individual) and coordination of care for patients ages 14-17 years old and their families. The job of this counselor revolves around providing comprehensive therapeutic support to patients through a multifaceted approach. A significant aspect of this role entails facilitating groups where patients come together to explore and practice DBT skills; these group sessions aim to foster emotional regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. Additionally, the  counselor conducts family and individual therapy sessions, tailoring interventions to address specific needs and challenges faced by each patient and their family system. The ultimate goal is to help patients develop adaptive coping mechanisms, enhance their interpersonal relationships, and manage emotional dysregulation more effectively. The pre-DBT counselor actively participates in team meetings collaborating with fellow professionals to discuss treatment plans, progress, and ongoing assessments to ensure patients receive comprehensive and cohesive care. This demanding role requires a strong commitment to helping individuals build resilience and lead fulfilling lives.
