Vector Health is on a mission to help hospitals secure financial aid for their patients by identifying medical mutual aid from non-profits. We work closely with rural hospital CEOs and CFOs, leveraging patient data to find funding opportunities, apply for reimbursement, and manage the entire application and money flow process.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our early-stage team and help build the technical backbone of our platform. You’ll report directly to our co-founder and CTO, Braden, and work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to develop secure, scalable systems that process large volumes of healthcare and financial data.

We're looking for someone experienced with Laravel and PHP, as well as data science experience, ideally in python, and who is excited about working with data pipelines, building performant APIs, and thinking deeply about systems architecture. This is a chance to help architect and build the next phase of our product.

What You’ll Do:

• Build and maintain backend systems in Laravel/PHP
• Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines to process large volumes of hospital and patient data leveraging Python and AWS
• Collaborate with Product and Operations to develop scalable, repeatable workflows
• Develop and manage APIs that connect hospital systems (EHRs) and nonprofit funding databases
• Work with a small team to build for security, reliability, and scalability
• Participate in architectural decisions and product direction from an engineering perspective

Who You Are:

• Strong experience with Laravel and PHP in a production environment
• Experience working with big data systems and data processing at scale in Python
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage startup
• Thoughtful about system design and driven by performance, security, and data integrity
• Able to operate independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
• Experience with EHR integrations, healthcare data standards (like HL7 or FHIR), or financial systems is a plus
