Overview:
Velatura Services is seeking an experienced Integration Engineer to design and implement robust interoperability solutions for a broad range of healthcare clients. This position plays a key role in building secure, scalable integrations between systems, supporting the exchange of healthcare data across Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), health systems, payers, and government agencies. The Integration Engineer will join a dynamic, mission-driven team dedicated to improving data connectivity across the healthcare ecosystem.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and support integration solutions for clinical and administrative systems.
- Lead the development and deployment of interfaces (HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, CCD/CDA, X12, REST, SOAP, DirectTrust).
- Develop and maintain technical specifications, dataflow diagrams, and interface documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve service outages and integration issues as they arise.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors on implementation and support.
- Scope integration projects and participate in effort estimation.
- Participate in regression and QA testing, production validation, and support documentation.
- Assist with knowledge transfer to configuration and support teams.
- Ensure adherence to industry best practices and compliance with HITRUST and security protocols.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in healthcare integration using HL7 v2, v3 C-CDA, X12, DirectTrust, and IHE protocols.
- Strong experience with FHIR, SMART on FHIR, REST APIs, OAuth, JSON, XML, and scripting/SQL.
- Proven success working with integration engines such as Qvera, Rhapsody, Mirth, or similar.
- Background integrating EMRs/EHRs and supporting interface lifecycles in healthcare environments.
- Strong ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and interface logic.
- Clear, concise communication skills and the ability to work across teams and vendors.
- Preferred:
- Prior experience working for an HIE.
- Experience with Apache NiFi, Kafka, AWS Glue, or GCP Dataflow.
- Familiarity with JIRA, Agile methodologies, and documentation best practices.
- Knowledge of clinical code sets and standards (e.g., SNOMED, LOINC, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).
- Exposure to HITRUST frameworks and IHE profiles (e.g., ITI-38, ITI-39, ITI-55).
