Title:   Senior Program Officer, VCS Methodologies

Location:   Remote - Worldwide (with significant overlap with US business hours)

Reports to:   Technical Manager, VCS Methodologies, Technological & Industrial Projects

    
The Opportunity.

 

With the rapid growth in carbon markets driving a new wave of innovative approaches, Verra is seeking a Senior Program Officer for the Methodologies Team in the Program Development and Innovation Department. The Senior Program Officer will support reviews and updates of existing methodologies and the development of new and revised methodologies for the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program.


The Role.

The successful applicant will be responsible for work that includes, but not limited to:

  • Conducting reviews and preparing revisions of active methodologies under the VCS Program to ensure they continue to reflect best practices, scientific consensus, evolving market conditions, and technical developments in a sector;
  • Liaise with other teams to receive input on for the review of existing methodologies;
  • Reviewing methodology idea notes and concept notes, and preparing internal recommendations;
  • Supporting the development and review of new VCS methodologies;
  • Assessing requests for reactivating methodologies that are currently inactive under the VCS Program; and
  • Responding to stakeholder inquiries related to methodology development and application of active methodologies.

 

Our Team.

You will join a team that works collaboratively to support the development of new and revised methodologies, oversee the development and review process, and lead on updates to VCS Program rules and requirements related to methodologies.

  • Verrans come from diverse locations and backgrounds, and include carbon market experts, project developers, consultants, climate negotiators, researchers, auditors, and more.
  • We are committed to driving finance at scale to projects and programs that advance climate action and sustainable development through high-quality standards and programs.

 

What we’d like to see.

  • At least five years of relevant work in carbon markets.
  • Proven expertise in developing or evaluating GHG emission reduction and removal projects and methodologies.
  • Broad understanding of different sectoral scopes, such as energy, manufacturing industries, waste management, and transport. Understanding agricultural and forestry methodologies is a plus.
  • In-depth understanding of methodological concepts such as project boundary, baseline, additionality, GHG quantification, and monitoring.
  • Advanced degree in sciences, engineering, or related field preferred; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail in complex documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English is essential.
  • Ability to engage with diverse international stakeholders and partners, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and awareness in a global context.

The final compensation offered will be contingent upon role, level, and location. Our Talent team can share the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

 

Salary is one component of Verra’s total compensation package which also includes:
