About the position:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This individual will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions including payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance with local and international accounting standards, and supporting the financial decision-making process. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial statements, leading internal and external audits, and providing insights to improve financial performance
Responsibilities:
- Payroll: Lead and manage the full payroll cycle for all employees in Colombia and the US, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payments.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and file tax returns (corporate income tax, VAT, and other local taxes) for both US and Colombia entities. Ensure compliance with all tax laws and regulations.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with local accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP) and regulatory requirements in Colombia.
- General Ledger Management: Oversee the general ledger (GL) operations, ensuring proper posting of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accuracy of financial transactions.
- Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring timely and accurate submission of financial results. Ensure the proper recording of transactions and balances.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor and report Colombian and US liabilities.
- Reconciliation & Analysis: Monitor and control of BS and P&L accounts in Colombia and the US.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements in accounting processes, policies, and controls to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Partnership Collaboration: Partner with other departments, such as Operations, HR, quality, Sales in accounting and finance related questions.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting,(Certified Public Accountant), Specialist in Taxes, payroll or Finance.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a senior or managerial role. Experience in both Colombia and US accounting regulations is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and Colombian tax and accounting regulations.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Oracle, NetSuite, Odoo) and advanced Excel skills. Experience with financial reporting and ERP systems.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken).
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think critically and strategically.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Software Proficiency:
- Proficiency in accounting and tax software (such as Netsuite, Odoo, Microsoft Excel advanced, DIAN portal, ARUS, Rippling.
- Familiarity with DIAN’ 's electronic platforms for submitting tax returns and processing other tax-related procedures.
Preferred Skills for payroll and taxes functions:
- Experience working in multinational companies or organizations with a large workforce in Colombia.
- Familiarity with benefits administration (health insurance, pensions, etc.) and other employee-related services.
- Experience with HRIS (Human Resource Information System) platforms.
