Position Description


The Security Officer is primarily responsible to perform protective service work such as

guarding DOE/NETL buildings and property, protecting DOE/NETL equipment and

material, and controlling access to DOE/NETL installations by employees, visitors, and

other contractors. The Security Officer will respond to emergencies, enforce DOE/NETL

regulations, and conduct crowd, parking, and traffic control, inspections, and perimeter

and internal access control. is primarily responsible to ensure that contractual obligations

are met during respective shifts.

  • Follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in
  • a safe work manner.
  • Arrive at work in proper uniform and carrying needed, issued equipment.
  • Carry out general and special orders for post assigned.
  • Interact and escort as required with public and government personnel.
  • Provide access control, traffic control and deter & report unauthorized entry to the
  • installation.
  • Maintain accountability, cleanliness and serviceability of uniform and equipment
  • assigned.
  • Will conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package & parcel
  • inspections.
  • Work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Supervision


This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience


Requirements for Security Officers include a high school diploma or GED, and

compliance with all applicable state and local qualification and licensing requirements

prior to coming on duty and maintained throughout employment at NETL.

  • Computer Skills
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word
  • processing, spreadsheets, database, (such as: MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Clearance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be 25 years of age.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the Act 235 certification.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive medical exam in accordance with 10 CFR
  • 1046 Subpart B Appendix A.
  • Must be able to meet and pass the basic training requirements as outlined in DOE regulation 473.3.
