POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The Behavioral Specialist provides direct care supervision for youth attending the designated VQ Alternative Education program. This role is responsible for fostering a safe environment that facilitates learning and behavioral management in a supportive manner in accordance with VQ, local state and federal policies and procedures.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
As a School-Based Behavioral Specialist, you'll be a critical team member, supporting students' prosocial behaviors, implementing positive behavioral interventions, and providing assistance with and management strategies.
 
 Job Expectations and Responsibilities
 
 Develop positive rapport with youth while serving as a role model to create a safe and caring environment. 
 
Implement strategies that increase students' appropriate behaviors, enabling students to develop increased confidence and awareness in order to complete assigned materials.
 
  Assist in implementing effective behavioral and academic supports in order to create and effective learning environment
 
 Support students displaying challenging behaviors, undergo training for Crisis Prevention intervention.

 Observes, reports, and documents identified behavior patterns and required information that merit documentation.
 Provide direction and leadership during arrival and dismissal processes
 
 
SKILLS & ABILITIES: 
 
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with ability to listen actively. 
Positive and compassionate attitude, solid relationship-building capabilities. 
Ability to work independently or as part of a team. 
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 
 
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 
 
  • High school diploma required, degree in related field, preferred. 
  • 2 year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in an Alternative Educational setting.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds infrequently.
Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day, sitting 50%of the day.
May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.

The pay range for this role is:

17 - 17 USD per hour (410 Morningstar Youth Academy )
