Job Purpose

VulcanForms is looking for a Production Control Buyer to own purchasing for our outside processing and production materials. You will source and manage the suppliers who keep our parts moving, including machining, heat treat, finishing, coating and inspection vendors. You will place and manage purchase orders, negotiate price and lead time, and make sure everything arrives on time and to spec. This is a hands-on role with a direct effect on cost, delivery and quality for high-performance metal components. The ideal candidate has hands-on buying experience in a manufacturing environment, with opportunities to develop production planning expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the full purchase order process for outside services and production materials, from request for quote (RFQ) through PO placement, follow-up, receipt and closeout
  • Source, qualify and onboard new and alternate suppliers to reduce risk, cost and lead time
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times and terms, and look for ways to cut costs
  • Build strong supplier relationships and serve as their main point of contact at VulcanForms
  • Track open orders, expedite when needed, and quickly escalate late deliveries or quality problems
  • Track supplier performance (on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness) and lead supplier reviews and corrective actions with Quality
  • Make sure POs include the right drawings, specs, certifications and customer flow-down requirements
  • Work with Production, Engineering and Quality to line up buying with production schedules, new product introductions (NPI) and production ramp-ups
  • Keep ERP/MRP data accurate (pricing, lead times, supplier records) and report on purchasing, open orders and inventory

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of buying or purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience buying outside services such as machining, heat treat, plating, coatings or NDT
  • 3+ years of hands-on ERP/MRP experience (Epicor, SAP, Oracle, etc.)
  • Proven negotiation and supplier-management skills
  • Strong organization, attention to detail and follow-through, with the ability to manage many open orders at once
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, data tracking)
  • Clear communication with suppliers and internal teams
  • Must be willing to work on site in Newburyport, MA

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+years in planning experience
  • Experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace, defense or medical (AS9100, ITAR, DFARS, quality flow-downs)
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing or precision machined parts
  • APICS/ASCM (CPIM, CSCP) or ISM (CPSM) certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or a related field
