About the role


Reporting to a mid-level manager, the production supervisor is primarily responsible for the following: Ensuring that quality, production standards, and objectives are achieved (safety, cost, quality, and delivery); Managing assigned associates and equipment for optimized manufacturing efficiencies; Facilitating superior individual performance and fostering a team environment; Preparing/supporting production plans that establish priorities and sequences for manufacturing products; Supporting 6-S housekeeping initiatives.  Supervises and coordinates activities of Production workers by performing the following duties.


MANAGERIAL / SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

 

Directly supervises up to 20 employees in Production and in multiple work areas.  Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performances; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, and complying with safety, health and environmental regulations, policies, and practices.


What you'll do

  • Responsible for all processes, equipment, employees’ safety, and housekeeping of the areas and meeting productions quality and quality standards on the shift.
  • Instruct their team on the proper use of safety equipment and emergency procedures relevant to the working area and plant policies.
  •  Lead and/or help take part in EHS investigations, i.e. injuries, accidents/incident, and help administer corrective actions.
  • Responsible for safety checks on all equipment operated throughout work area, as well as monitoring activities of workers during shift.
  • Effectively communicate with wage personnel (safety/work assignments/issues/concerns, etc.). Safety and instructional information meetings with employees should take place each day.
  • Ensure security and sanitation of the work area.
  • Ensure employees comply with all environmental and hazardous waste processes.
  • Inputs data via computer systems for such activities as maintenance work orders, hourly employee time charging records, and production/scheduling systems. 
  • Prepares man-hour estimates of work scopes to support establishment of goal hours and proposal estimates.
  • Maintain a focus on continuous improvement through the application of lean manufacturing principles.  Operate with a LEAN mindset.
  • Studies production schedule and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Maintains shift reports/records; ensure that necessary operating suppliers/materials are on-hand.
  • Knowledge of desktop computer skills and Microsoft Office.
  • Recommends and execute measures to improve production methods, efficiency, equipment performance, and quality of product or crew performance.
  • Supervisors are responsible for setting high standards to reach work area goals and do not compromise quality.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Leads with integrity, equitability addressing situations in accordance with plant policies, procedures, and corporate initiatives.
  • Administers the bargaining unit agreement, transfers, training of subordinates and recommending workforce changes, including discharges. 
  • Performs other miscellaneous functions that are common responsibilities of all supervisory personnel. 
  • Takes a lead role in providing specialized training for hourly employees such as operation of manlifts, machine tools, cranes…etc.
  • Manage the attendance system and approve timecards, vacation, and PTO to provide a work-life balance for employees and equally provide human capital to run the operation.       
  • Address and document any violations of procedures/policies.  Immediately bring to the attention of the Team Leader, Production Manager and/or HR.   
  • Produce conformance products to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines when necessary.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Must be able to work daytime, nighttime, and weekends, depending upon assigned shift schedule. 
  • Establish the working knowledge and proper use of all equipment and machines in the department.     
  • Provides ongoing training and coaching in individual and group settings.      
  • Cross train employees to create a more flexible environment.   
  • Monitor training progress of all wage personnel to ensure all required training is completed, schedule classes as needed.      
  • Function as a team member.

Qualifications


·       Associate degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combined of education and experience.

 

·       Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

 

·       Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

 

·       Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

·       Ability to work any continuous or fixed shift schedule including any day of the calendar week as required for operation of the position and mandatory overtime as implemented by management.  This position will consist of both 8- and/or 12-hour shifts.

 

·       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
