Trial Attorney at Wanta Thome

About Wanta Thome

Our mission is to undo the economic harm of workplace discrimination.

We’re contingency employment lawyers focused on maximum financial recovery for workers facing discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage violations. We move fast to restore stability, hold bad actors accountable, and deliver justice clients can actually feel.

Our case types include race, sex, age, and disability discrimination; sexual harassment; whistleblower retaliation; FMLA interference; workers’ compensation retaliation; and pregnancy discrimination.

The Mission

Drive maximum financial recovery for employees who have experienced workplace discrimination or retaliation.

This isn’t about billing hours or playing the waiting game. It’s about using sharp litigation instincts, persistence, and the Wanta Thome method to get clients the full value of their case.

What You’ll Accomplish

We hire people to deliver results, not to go through the motions. Here’s what success looks like in your first 12–18 months:

  1. Case Value: Achieve median settlement values at or above firm benchmarks for your case types (we’ll share how we set targets during interviews—they’re aggressive)
  2. Courtroom Performance: Execute depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials that advance case value.
  3. Client Experience: Maintain outstanding client feedback through consistent communication and transparency. We survey clients for their feedback regularly.
  4. Delegation Effectiveness: Your job is fresh analysis, strategy, and advocacy. We expect you’ll delegate the rest to your paralegal or case manager.
  5. Process Adherence: Our proprietary, technology-backed, system for case advancement is at the heart of our practice. It’s what allows us to achieve truly fantastic client results for clients. We’ll train you how to use it and ask for your help to improve it.
  6. Portfolio Growth: Build capacity to manage an expanding caseload as you master our systems.

How You’ll Operate

Role-Based Competencies

Strategic Case Assessment You see the full chessboard. You identify pressure points, quantify damages early, and build strategies that force favorable resolution. You don’t wait for the other side to act—you dictate the tempo.

Persuasive Advocacy Your writing moves people. Your oral arguments command attention. Whether it’s a motion or a closing statement, you communicate with precision and impact.

Efficient Delegation You give paralegals and case managers clear directions, specific timelines, and explicit boundaries. You trust them to execute routine work so you can focus on the strategic decisions only you can make. Attorneys who hoard tasks or micromanage don’t survive here.

Client Relationship Skills You’re the steady hand clients trust during the most stressful period of their professional lives. You communicate proactively, set realistic expectations, and never leave them wondering what’s happening with their case.

Negotiation for Maximum Value You know when to push, when to hold, and when to close.

Cultural Competencies (Our Core Values)

Teamwork (No Ego) You win as part of a team, not as a solo act. You share credit, ask for help when you need it, and celebrate others’ victories.

Impactful Agility When obstacles appear, you find a way through (or around... or over... you get the idea). You don’t wait for permission to solve problems. You make smart calls that keep cases moving.

Relentless Excellence You own your outcomes completely. No excuses, no blame-shifting, no “that’s not my job.” When something falls short, you fix it and prevent it from happening again.

Results-Driven You prioritize ruthlessly. You know the difference between busy and productive. Every action you take connects to client recovery or firm growth—everything else is noise.

Radical Candor You’d rather have a hard conversation now than let a problem fester. You give feedback that helps people improve. You receive feedback without defensiveness.

What We Give You

Freedom

You’re the president of your own practice inside our firm. You make the strategic calls on your cases. You decide how to deploy your support team. Our processes exist to accelerate your effectiveness.

Fit

You’re stepping into a role designed for attorneys who want to own their results. Our team structure means you’re the strategic lead on your cases—supported by paralegals and case managers who handle execution so you can focus on the work that actually moves outcomes.

We’ll teach you employment law through our proven systems. What we can’t teach is litigation instinct, strategic thinking, and the drive to win. Bring those, and we’ll give you everything else.

Flexibility

The option for hybrid or fully remote work with regular hours. Yes, some weekends happen when cases demand it—that’s the nature of litigation. But we believe sustainable performance beats burnout every time.

Rewards

Base compensation matches your experience, plus incentives tied directly to outcomes. When you perform, you earn. Top performers in our system out-earn their peers at traditional firms because our infrastructure lets them handle more cases at higher values.

We’re transparent about the math: the better your results, the more you make. No mystery, no politics.

Fun

We actually like working together. We celebrate wins. We solve hard problems as a team. We’re building something that matters—helping workers recover from discrimination and retaliation is the mission that gets us out of bed. If you want to be part of a team that’s genuinely excited about what we’re doing, you’ll fit right in.

This Role Is NOT For You If…

Let’s save us both some time. Don’t apply if:

  • You struggle to delegate. Our model requires you to trust your support team and focus on high-leverage work.
  • You measure success by hours worked. We measure results. Some of our best performers work fewer hours because they’re strategic about where they spend their time.
  • You avoid hard conversations. Radical Candor is a core value, not a slogan. If you’d rather let problems slide than address them directly, you’ll be miserable here.
  • You disappear when working remotely. We trust you to manage your time, but responsiveness matters. If you go dark for hours or miss team touch points, remote won’t work for either of us.
  • You resist technology. We use HubSpot, AI tools, and data analytics daily. If you prefer legal pads (we get it, we still use them too) and dictaphones (but not those), you will not succeed here.

Requirements

Non-Negotiables:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice in Minnesota (or currently eligible for admission)
  • 4+ years litigation experience

What Actually Matters: Your overall litigation sense matters more than employment law experience—we can teach the subject matter. What we can’t teach:

  • Strategic thinking under pressure
  • Persuasive writing that moves outcomes
  • The discipline to delegate effectively
  • Client empathy combined with business judgment
  • The drive to win cases, not just work them

The Structure

Reports to: Managing Attorney

Your Team: You’ll lead a team that includes paralegal and case manager support. They handle execution; you drive strategy.

Tools: Microsoft 365 and HubSpot are our primary platforms. We develop custom AI tools for drafting and case analysis that you won’t find anywhere else

Location: Hybrid—Minneapolis or remote with periodic in-person collaboration

How to Apply

We know this posting is long. That’s intentional. We want you to understand exactly what you’re walking into, and we want to see who’s genuinely interested versus who’s mass-applying.

If you’ve read this far, here’s what we need from you:

  1. Your resume
  2. A cover letter that includes:
    • The phrase ”Persistence Wins Cases” (so we know you read the whole thing)
    • Briefly describe a case where your strategy—not just hard work—changed the outcome
    • What appeals to you most about this opportunity

Applications without the required elements won’t be reviewed (because attention to detail and following instructions predicts how you’ll operate when you’re managing cases with real stakes).

Ready?

If this mission resonates, if these outcomes excite you, and if you’re ready to be held accountable to results rather than activity—we want to hear from you.

Apply now. Let’s see if you’re our next top attorney.
