Wildfire Defense Systems, Inc. (“WDS”) is a Qualified Insurance Resource (QIR) operating the largest private sector wildfire service in the nation, encompassing a 22-state service area and specializing in wildfire education, loss prevention, and wildfire response services. Qualified Insurance Resources are defined as NWCG qualified or equivalent, wildland engines, tenders, hand crews, fire/liaison officers, and personnel working for or contracted by an insurance company with a mission to mitigate impacts on insured structures threatened by wildfire. WDS holds contracts with insurance companies to provide wildfire loss prevention services. WDS fields experienced, highly trained, safety-focused wildfire officers and fire personnel that hold a wide range of Federal Wildfire Incident Command position classifications necessary to meet or exceed all federal wildfire operation standards and codes including all requirements of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (“NWCG”) or equivalent. WDS is capable of providing more than 180 wildland engines and hundreds of fire personnel and support personnel. WDS has served large and small insurance clients since 2008.

Purpose and Scope of Position

The Corporate Tax and Internal Controls Analyst will examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records to prepare financial statements, give advice, and/or audit and evaluate statements prepared by others. Co-ordinate with outside CPA/Tax Accounting firm to ensure all required tax filings and payments are made timely and accurately. Install or advise on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data. Develop tax forecasts monthly or as directed. Responsible for design, creation, and implementation of a comprehensive and ongoing internal process and procedural audit program, including communication of results to company management.

Location

This position will be based in our Bozeman, Montana, headquarters where the employee is expected to be physically present. Candidates who desire to work remotely will not be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with outside CPA/Tax Accounting firm to proactively develop a comprehensive tax strategy for all entities and ownership, focused on reducing tax liability and increasing profits.
  • Primary responsibility for the timely preparation and review of all tax returns, reports, forms, filings, and payment vouchers for all US and international business entities. This includes S-Corporations, Partnerships, Fiduciary, C-Corporations, and not-for-profit entities.
  • Responsible for communicating and coordinating final preparation of all tax filings with external CPA/Tax Accounting firm.
  • Develop and maintain positive and strong professional relationships with exterior CPA/Tax Accounting firm.
  • Manage all aspects, preparation, and review of US Federal, state, and local tax filings for S-Corporations, Partnerships, Fiduciary, C-Corporations, and not for profit entities. Complete accurate daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual (or as required by law) tax reports
  • Perform financial oversight and implement controls supporting timely and accurate management reporting results, including pre- and post-tax net income, recommending operating earnings adjustments as necessary
  • Research and analyze complex tax issues to determine the best solutions with emphasis on reducing tax liabilities and increasing profits
  • Manage and maintain the organization’s tax database
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations by completing and filing required documents to relevant government or compliance authorities
  • Evaluate tax laws and make suggestions to company management to decrease tax liabilities
  • Demonstrate technical and operational knowledge about proposed changes in tax laws and regulations that could impact on the company and its operations. Prepare and communicate numerical impact analysis of the possible changes to management
  • Act as internal subject matter expert in the areas of taxes and compliance
  • Prepare materials for Board of Director’s meetings for various WD companies
  • Offer guidance and support to the various departments during audits
  • Proactively communicate any difficulties in being able to complete job duties timely and accurately to management
  • Provide assistance to internal and (as directed) external clients
  • Responsible for maintaining and revising Accounting and Finance department Policies and Procedures Manual on an annual basis, at minimum, or as directed by company management
  • Work with company management to create, maintain, and enforce client document return policy
  • Act as the primary responsible party within the company to coordinate preparation and presentation of required company documentation for any and all audits
  • Provide assistance to the Finance and Accounting departments as needed for budgeting, planning, and forecasting as needed
  • Develop, maintain, and update an “Important Dates” calendar tracking all due dates for tax filings or payments

Education & Experience Requirements

  • A Montana Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required
  • Familiarity and experience working with Canadian tax law and requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related major is required
  • A master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is preferred
  • At least 5+ year’s experience in a tax role required

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15-lbs

The pay range for this role is:

66,500 - 108,000 USD per year (WDS Bozeman Headquarters)
