ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE, EARNED MEDIA

Are you a strategic storyteller with a passion for shaping news coverage and a knack for building impactful media relationships? If you're a proactive problem-solver with a knack for strategic media relations and a drive to secure top-tier coverage, you could be a great fit for the Account Executive role in our growing Earned Media Vertical. We are looking for someone who wants to support the development and execution of strategic earned media campaigns that elevate our clients' voices across various sectors and audiences.

You are a great fit for this role if you have a sharp eye for newsworthy angles and a deep understanding of crafting compelling narratives for media placements. This position is ideal for someone who is not only a skilled writer but also an agile, strategic thinker who enjoys the chase of a great placement. Whether your background is in journalism, public affairs, or advocacy, you'll be a key player in developing pitches, securing coverage, and preparing clients for interviews. If you’re a collaborative self-starter who excels at managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines, this opportunity could be for you.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft and edit high-quality earned media materials, including press releases, pitches, media advisories, op-eds, and briefing memos.
  • Supports proactive media pitching, outreach planning, and press list creation tailored to each client’s voice, goals, and issue area.
  • Contribute to the development of earned media scopes, strategy memos, media audits, and landscape analyses.
  • Collaborate with account teams to execute media plans for key moments such as events, reports, campaigns, and rapid response.
  • Monitor the news landscape, reporter beats, and industry trends to identify opportunities and deliver timely counsel to clients.
  • Support media training, interview prep, and message refinement to help clients communicate clearly and confidently.
  • Manage pitching timelines, follow-ups, and deliverables across accounts with strong attention to detail and accountability.
  • Track, analyze, and report on media coverage to measure impact and extract actionable insights.
  • Use tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, or Meltwater for press list building, coverage tracking, and media analytics.
  • Contribute to building internal earned media tools, best practices, and team-wide learnings.
  • Stay informed on media landscape shifts, newsroom changes, outlet trends, and the evolving role of earned media in advocacy campaigns.
  • Perform other duties as required to support team and organizational priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Haves:

  • 3+ years of experience in strategic communications or public relations, with a focus on earned media relations.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with demonstrated experience in drafting high-quality press releases, pitches, and briefing memos.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of media contacts across traditional and new media. 
  • Strong sense of media viability and the ability to provide strategic, grounded input on newsworthy angles and opportunities.
  • Proactive media relations skills, including developing press lists, conducting tailored outreach, and securing top-tier placements.
  • Expertise in media monitoring and reporting, with the ability to measure success against goals and synthesize performance insights for clients.
  • Highly collaborative mindset, with experience working cross-functionally with account teams to execute complex earned media campaigns.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple timelines, deliverables, and client accounts simultaneously.
  • Comfort level with client and stakeholder engagement in a professional, service-oriented capacity.
  • Knowledge of media tools such as Muck Rack, Cision, Meltwater, or similar platforms.
  • A natural curiosity and an understanding of how shifts in the media landscape impact advocacy and issue campaigns.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Background in journalism, political comms, podcasting and new media, or newsroom experience
  • Existing relationships with reporters or familiarity with key beats in public interest issue spaces
  • Experience managing rapid response media or staffing high-pressure media moments
  • Familiarity with media training or helping clients show up confidently in interviews
  • Exposure to media coverage analysis or communications audit development
  • Experience contributing to editorial strategy for major reports, public campaigns, or large-scale advocacy pushes

Compensation and Timeline: This is a full-time, hourly position with a pay range of $29–$34 per hour, commensurate with experience. We will review applications through November 21, 2025, and begin interviews shortly after that date. The anticipated start date for this position is January 6, 2026.
